Hello. I'm going to make a new series of threads called "Why Did They Flop?" Every day, I bring up one former WWE star whose career looked promising, then went nowhere in the end. Your job is to give me your opinions on why they flopped. Today's Superstar is: Luther Reigns Day 1: Mordecai Day 2: Luther Reigns

I'm going to make a new series of threads called "Why Did They Flop?" Every day, Really Dude, you've made four or five threads about flopping today alone. Can you maybe constrain them to one thread, and just change the name of the thread each day? And, Mordecai failed because he needed work in ring, and religious gimmicks rarely get over.

He was like only on the roster for like a month and only wrestled like three matches. Two squash matches and lost one to Rey Mysterio and never seen again. I wouldn't call him a flop the same reason I wouldn't count Hade Vansen or Kizarny a flop.

The biggest busts thread was about your opinions on wrestlers who flopped the hardest. Now, I'm naming wrestlers, and you're supposed to give us your opinions on each one.

I wasn't watching wrestling at the time, but I've watched his stuff on YouTube since. Great vignettes, great character concept, great music, great entrance, pretty much the embodiment of what I watch pro wrestling for...
...and then the bell rung, and by god, was he shit in the ring. His promo skills didn't really live up to the promise of the gimmick either, IMO. Not at all surprised he dropped off the radar as fast as he did.

He had a cool look, but I think they should've done something more with the gimmick. He just came in and beat a few jobbers. It would've been interesting to see him defeat guys and make them his followers. Give him a cult leader gimmick. A mouthpiece would've helped too.

Too green. That was WWE's problem for most of the 2000s. Bringing up green guys. I thought the gimmick was kinda cool, it wasn't the most absurd and could have worked out. But yeah, too green at the time.

He kept being coaxed into playing games instead of setting up the chairs like Benson told him to.

I thought Reverend D-Von was awesome.

Wasn't there a rumor that Mordecai was going to do something with Undertaker? As for why he flopped though... I don't really remember him around enough to do anything. It felt like someone approved the gimmick, Vince saw it and hated it, and that was the end of it.

He also seemed like a perfect opponent for Eddie since Mordecai can bring up all the sins Eddie commits yet still gets cheered.

I didn't catch much of it, but given how Thorn was still a very underwhelming wrestler that he just outright blew.

While he wasn't a tremendous talent or anything inside the ring, he was decentish for a big man during this time. Really, he didn't so much flop as they just pulled the plug after three matches.
How could he have been a success? Give him storylines, feuds, and slowly build him up to a program with the Undertaker. Ideally gradually crafting him into their next Mankind/Kane and not the numerous forgettable foes of the Undertaker in the 90's.

Wrong guy for a great gimmick.
