Having no ring and cancelling = loss of money
Having no ring and having two senior citizens wrestle on a mat with a rat tailed fan as ref = now considered a huge joke online in the eyes or fans and wrestlers
Yeah, cancelling wasn't the worst idea.

I haven't had a chance to watch any of the clips yet, but does anyone know about the claim he was using untrained workers? That seems like the worst part of it. As for an indie promoter still running a show without a ring I'm not really suprised at all. If you've ever heard any negative story about an indie promoter he was probably doing something even stupider or scummier.

From what I've been able to dig up, the promotor got bombed out of NWA-SEW which runs in the same town, and set up his own rival promotion which ran it's first show at the start of the year with dropouts from NWA-SEW's wrestling school, a handful of no-name independent workers, and Ox Baker and Lanny Poffo. Due to a total lack of promotion, it drew very few fans and they didn't run another show until this one.

These videos are gold. I love when the guy attacks the promotor and gives him the "gentle shoulder massage of doom"

Well it wasn't a success but was it really in shambles as much as everyone says? The ring didn't turn up so he went to his next option. Cancelling the show would of been worse. Two senior citizens attempting to have a match on a single gym mat with an untrained referee pulled from the 20 people in the crowd isn't a shambles to you? Cancelling would have been worse, I agree, but changing to a meet and greet, have Nikolai and Fulton tell old ring war stories, and set up an angle for next month's show, comping those who had turned up would have been a better option. Damage limitation over making themselves a laughing stock. How many good independent talents are going to queue up to do business with them? They'll get the broken down old guys who can't afford to be picky, but beyond that? It's going to take them a good while to shake the reputation they've earned. Lets hypothetically say you have Fulton and Volkoff tell war stories at a meet and greet and let everyone go home. At that point it's about 700-800 bucks you've spent. These legends aren't cheap and having 2 would be around the 500-600 mark alone. Now if we assume some type of travel fee is paid and a hotel that's easily over a grand. Then you have the rest of the indy guys who probably work for between 20-50 bucks so at that point you're looking at about 1500 to simply have two guys talk for an hour or so. Then you have the building rental, the insurance fees (Which you don't get a refund on) so now we're at about 2 grand for Volkoff and Fulton to talk At least if you film the show and do it on a mat you get the ticket money and maybe a few DVD sales from hardcore fans of Fulton and Volkoff who still want to see them. Maybe you walk away with 300-400 and still lose your 1600 or whatever. it's still making the cost less. Maybe you sell a few DVD's as well and walk away with another hundred bucks or something. Independent talents will do business with anyone. If anything, they'll just ask for 100% up front when this guy contacts them.

Not surprised they are getting torn apart online since anything the promoter was going to say to defend a show like that was bound to get a backlash (or complete apathy). Plus, it doesn't help that his rhetoric makes him sound a bit out there to put it mildly. I guess it's good that it sounds like all of his performers have at least some training, which at least puts it above a backyarder promotion. Still, pretty bothersome Ox Baker and Lanny Poffo agreed to lend their names to this since I believe both have options and neither are thought of as the cliche old, broken down indie guy.

A couple more videos from CCW's "TV tapings": Needs more Great Power Uti though. I like how he has 3 mics set up so it looks like several networks are covering it, but all the mic are of the same brand. Well at least he put a different cover on one of the mics. Also all one needs to do to get a CCW contract, is to give him a back massage apparently

Independent talents will do business with anyone. If anything, they'll just ask for 100% up front when this guy contacts them. Considering the promotor wanted Gregory Iron and Zach Gowan to come in on $20 apiece without being able to cover travel or hotel costs, I think you're giving them too much credit with their financial sense. Iron and Gowan may not be the biggest of indie names, but if you think $20 opening offer and $50 tops with no consideration for travel/hotel costs is a realistic fee then you have no business being in a position to make the offer. Plus, if DVDs of the match were even considered, why would they put it up on YouTube in it's entirety the same evening? I suppose it's just a difference in philosophy. I would personally save face and not look like a fool for the sake of a marginally smaller financial loss and have a stronger bargaining position for future shows. If you are going to be losing money anyway, do it with dignity instead of dropping your trousers and crapping your pants like these guys and expect people to pay for it.

I am never going to get tired of laughing at the verbal blistering Greg Iron dished out.
It would've been much better for this guy to cancel, eat the costs, and take a while to get properly organized and have everything in place then make it up to the fans with a better show than what they got. (And to make sure that whoever tapes it doesn't plaster a HUGE LOGO over the middle of the footage just because he was told he could put his name on it!)

Gregory Iron feeling he's above working for 20 bucks is pretty funny as well. Dude is known for teaming with Gowen in obscure indies. Gowen is worth more but only because he was in the E. Dude, at that wage you'd be losing money to perform for this guy. $20 wouldn't even cover the food for the trip. There's being too big for your britches, and there's showing common sense. This is the latter. Unless you're local and still an unknown, $20 isn't worth a drive.

Fun Fact: I get paid $20 to wrestle on shows regularly. Sooooo yeahhh Zack Gowen and Gregory Irons should be getting more.

Damn, I really love Greg Iron and I'm really glad that he turned the booking down, on a note, holy f*** that looks like one of those shitty Youtube promotions.

Having no ring and cancelling = loss of money Having no ring and having two senior citizens wrestle on a mat with a rat tailed fan as ref = now considered a huge joke online in the eyes or fans and wrestlers Yeah, cancelling wasn't the worst idea. I'm sure they're all devastated that there are multi-page threads on every wrestling forum on the Internet, not to mention Facebook, discussing their wrestling organization. It certainly isn't true for the big-time feds, but for small-time indies, any publicity is good publicity.

We'll see when then run their next show, but based on the evidence here I wouldn't expect any indie name big enough to draw is going to queue up to work for this guy.
