Showed quite a bit with what's wrong modern day WWE, didn't it? They rejected Orton and Cena with Daniel Bryan chants, which just proves that no matter how hard they've been built up over the past ten years, they aren't top guy material anymore. Atleast not in the sense of title reigns, or top angles constantly. And then I noticed how scripted the entire segment was, probably word for word, due to the crowd going off in a different direction, and everyone basically clinging to their material regardless. Orton went off on the fans eventually, but they still didn't get the crowd back fully. Is it a coincidence that wrestlers had more freedom during the Golden Age and Attitude Eras, and business was better? Or is that just a myth, with things just as scripted? Do you guys notice how forced everything seems nowadays? Curious to see your guys thoughts, as I thought this was very interesting. WrestleMania XXVIIII was really a dud, and the fact that there's no buzz for WrestleMania FREAKIN XXX yet, I don't have much hope left for WWE..They have clearly stopped listening to the fans and letting them dictate who's successful.
P.S. Michael Cole is the worst announcer I've seen in 25 years. JBL is second, King is his current incarnation, third.

Cena's explanation that the crowd were chanting Daniel Bryan because they wanted him and Orton to have a match was glorious.

Does the crowd chanting for Bryan by name prove that it is in fact him that is over not just the yes chant?

Now to the post itself: I understand your pain. Over scripting is terrible. If any one of those three are the worst announcers you've ever heard--then you've not watched much wrestling outside of the WWE. They're positively grand compared to others. |

It definitely feels like a lot of the talent nowadays don't know how to react or save a segment when the crowd doesn't react as desired, that or they aren't allowed to. I think a lot of the strange crowd chants are part of this, most segments are done for the camera rather then to the audience and a lot of the chants feel like a cry for attention some times.

If WWE are smart (big if), then they should take this and use it to their advantage - Have Bryan win the Rumble and headline in a three-way to unify the titles. Instead. We get Cena and Orton unification match with three weeks of build. Cool.

They're either going to keep on having Bryan switch from face to heel and back, or pushing him to the point where he seems like he's finally going to get that run on top the audience wants, only to feed him to someone who isn't that over until the crowd stops cheering for him because they've been burned so many times. Once the crowd stops reacting to him as they once did, I'm sure management will pat themselves on the back because they knew Bryan was just a fad. I'm beginning to suspect that this is only going to get worse as Triple H becomes more involved backstage, taking over more and more of Vince's duties. I just don't think he's someone that grasps the concept of pushing guys who've managed to form a connection with the audience as he wasn't one of those guys, that's not is experience of life backstage, he was a guy who became a star because the company decided he should be one, and so far, all of his pet projects have received the same sort of booking. |

Doesn't change the fact that Bryan is who the crowd (and every crowd since before Summer Slam) wants in this angle. It was a vocal hijacking to send a message. That said, Cena turning it around to say that them chanting for Bryan meant they wanted him to take down the Authority was beyond hilarious. |
