So what is the actual rating? Around 2.5?

Ratings don't matter when some guys don't do so good. They do matter with theirs. It has zero to do with any one performer. The reason is mostly the 3 hour length. The show is structured in a way, and the ratings reflect it, that the 8 pm opening, 9 pm opening, 10 pm opening, the quarter to 11 slot and then overrrun are the only things people flip back for. Everything else is able to missed because it's of no real consequence. WWE has created a pattern that viewers abide to, and present an overall arc that no one cares to sit through entirely. The entire 3 hour model is an abject failure. But WWE's hands are tied because it *still* does better overall than the schlocky garbage USA produces, and WWE wants to have negotiating leverage when the rights fees renewals come up.

I can't be the only one who feels Football has less of an effect on the ratings than they claim it does.

This is what happens when you repeat the same matches week in and week out, give inconclusive ppv results, and just rehash Smackdown on Raw

RAW wasn't a bad episode this week. They could have had Bryan winning the WWE Title from a heel John Cena, and football would have still creamed them. Eh, it's only one show, but the problem is that WWE will never accept responsibility no matter how far it dips. They'll always find a reason as to why their viewers aren't watching their "excellent" product. Gewirtz was let go when they hit 2.5 last year. I don't know what the decimal is for this week, but they change something around at least.

I can't be the only one who feels Football has less of an effect on the ratings than they claim it does. If 16 million watch Sunday Night Football, and 16 million watch Monday Night Football, it's not far fetched to say that it's the same group of people watching both games. Football, Pawn Stars, are used as excuses by guys like Caldwell and Keller who refuse to see the trend, and would rather just blame it on something else. But if TNA does low ratings on Thanksgiving night, the apocalypse is coming and the end is nigh. W/WWE, it's the holiday season, people are out shopping, that's why ratings are low. Whatever...part of me actually wishes the viewership will come down to around 2.5 million just to see what happens.

I can't be the only one who feels Football has less of an effect on the ratings than they claim it does. Somebody on another forum actually brought up a really interesting point. The rise of reality TV took away a bigger chunk of wrestling's audience than any sport. Back in the day, wrestling used to be one of the only places that you could see larger-than-life characters talk shit to each other and fight in outlandish situations. Now, you can turn on nearly any reality show and get the same result.

It's too formulaic, and they've educated fans to know that the important things only happen at the top of the hour. The whole show needs a more spontaneous, anything-can-happen feel.

That and just as posters have said WWE has conditioned us to watch certain segments, WWE has also conditioned us to watch their product on certain times of the year. January - April, hot, it's WM season. After that, meh.

They should have sirens blare at the beginning of every show. That'll get the crowd pumped! Maybe even have some hammy announcer scream "WELCOME TO MONDAY NIGHT RAW!!!"

I think that the WWE is in the ultimate holding pattern and as long as they're making a nice profit they don't have any incentive to change anything. The only thing that will bring change is if the bottom falls out.

I hope John Cena doesn't get demoted or punished for this terrible rating.

Dallas/Chicago is on MNF this week. Probably won't be any better. I know I won't be watching. Same here. Although if WWE was out there putting on an excellent product, I might favor them over the NFL. Yeah, if they hadn't sucked for a few months, I might flip back and forth or something. As is, though, picking MNF over em is an EASY decision to make.

Meanwhile, Raw performed pretty well in the FAN ratings with 116 pages. It also provided a nice lead-in rating boost to the Sin Cara meme thread.

so the trend continues. This does several things. It's not one performers fault, or if it must be laid at the feet of one person, the only constants have been Orton and Triple H. Thing is, that's ridiculous, since every configuration shows the same pattern.
Wrestling isn't "in" anymore, but it hasn't been for more than 10 years. The "casual" crowds aren't hot for it like they once were, and if we're left with the old school and lifetime fans, how many times can you feed them the same matches and not start seeing a decline?

Ratings don't matter when some guys don't do so good. They do matter with theirs. If a guy I like get good numbers then ratings matter. If a guy I like doesn't get good rating then they don't matter If a guy I like gets bad ratings see #2 If a guy I don't like gets bad ratings see #1

The problem is that they need an attitude change. Just how in the late 90s boom things had moved on from the 80s and you couldn't put jobber matches on each week, now times have changed again and you cannot keep on repeating the same matches and feuds over and over. They're still stuck in the Attitude era attitude. They're giving away free shit on TV every damn week with NOT MOTHER******** COMPETITION!!!
What's the point?
It's ridiculous. They're essentially the only wrestling game in town and they're still giving us matches for free each week that they're asking for $40 to see at the end of the month.
What's needed is a complete revamp. Not just change the set every 3 or 4 years but a total revamp of what Raw is. Because it's been nothing but a continually watered down product for the last 10 years.
Look how different Raw was to what they'd done before when it launched in 1993. Look how different it was five years later. Now look at what it is now. It's essentially the same show but weaker. And has been for well over a decade. They need new producers, new writers/bookers and admit that the show is stagnant as a decade old unflushed dump in the toilet.
