They might have preferred cable.
But this sounds a lot better for us.

It was a slippery slope anyway. The timing was suspect with their USA Network renewal fees coming up again for renegotiation soon. I have no idea how you'd approach USA to give you a huge revenue bump and better advertising rights (They believe they deserve NHL or NFL money), while at the same time, trying to promote your own Network, that USA would have to be a fool to figure the company wouldn't put more effort & stock into to justify and sustain its investment.

Ya, I'd buy that.
I think maybe they dodged a bullet by not getting in bed with the sinking ship that is cable and satellite TV.

They might have preferred cable. But this sounds a lot better for us. Yup. $10 for every PPV, Raw and co? Considering how I use netflix for every other show and more or less have cable only for raw, I'd be so down for cancelling cable and sticking with this. I'm actually strangely looking forward to it now.

But even if it was that price, for the catalog and most of the non-big 4 PPVs? That sounds like a deal to me.

They possibly could've launched at the original time if they just did online-only in the first place. I'd be fine with this.

That's a good deal 6 months for $60 is cheaper than WrestleMania itself.

It does seem like a good deal for fans. Pretty much everyone has a streaming device or an HDMI enabled laptop these days, so it isn't going to be that big of a deal that it is an online only service.
From the WWE's perspective though I bet there is a little bit of disappointment.

I f***ing hope not. That completely kills it for me. Streaming is absolute shit in my area.

I'd be so down for this, especially the on demand library. It sounds like a great idea.

An online on demand service?
Sweet. This essentially means Classics on Demand lives on under a different name and way the f*** more content.

As long as they make an app for the XBOX, or Smart TV's, i'm down 100% for this.

A "step down"? At least they're not as likely to suffer Network Decay.

*IF* The WWE Network ends up being an online only network, or subscription streaming network, then it's pretty similar to what they already had with WWE Classics On-Demand. It seems that this avenue is really where the future is heading as Netflix and Hulu are having success and there is speculation that services like HBOGO and Showtime Anytime are looking into becoming available without a cable/satellite subscription to those networks. There are also services like Vudu and Amazon that are getting into this streaming game.
More and more people are accessing their content (movies, TV shows, etc) from smart TVs, video game consoles, Blu-ray players, and Roku players. If WWE had a service available on these platforms, it would be very similar to their soon-to-be dropped On-Demand service. These services all work 'view what you want, when you want' which goes against the traditional TV network model.
I've often found it ironic that WWE was working to get rid of their On-Demand/Streaming service in favor of a television network (subscription or otherwise), simply because the traditional TV channels and cable in general has been on a bit of a decline with 'cord cutters' while more people are moving to services like Netflix (and, yes, like WWE Classics On Demand). To me, it's seemed clear that WWE was hoping for their own traditional cable channel like NFL Network or a a premium channel like HBO or Showtime, with the traditional TV broadcasting service. Yet, they already had in-place a subscription on-demand service similar to those which are having more and more success in the market.
