Punk won't retire. Spent much of his career wrestling in front of 12 people. Suddenly gonna give it up? Absolutely no chance Tim Thomas spent most of his career in the most minor and bush leagues and will probably retire soon

Does that mean they'll get written out together in an angle where they realize they were in love the entire time before riding off into the sunset? Well NOW they will.

John Cena will be inducted into the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame and Vince McMahon will retire sooner or later. You heard it from me first.

Yeah right. Part timers maybe. Few people ever "retire" in wrestling. If the money is right, they'll always come back. I could see Punk sticking to it like HBK. He seems to be a man of his word.

Shawn has only been retired for 3 years and makes frequent returns. I wouldn't hold my breath yet on a return, although I rather he wouldn't.

Absolutely no chance 1. one of these days you'll have to learn how to count without using your fingers and toes. there do exist numbers greater than 20 2. Punk spent 6 years wrestling in the indies. including developmental, he's been working for WWE for the past 8 years

I wouldn't hold my breath yet on a return, although I rather he wouldn't. I agree, though he makes frequent returns but has not been coaxed into a match as of yet. I think Shawn (as would Punk if he had an actual retirement) won't agree to another match since he knows he can't deliver like he once could. As another poster said, I could see Punk becoming a commentator in the vein of JBL. He really did seem to enjoy it.

I was hoping to see Rey Mysterio, tbh.
The man is basically being held together by the hopes and dreams of Mexican children.

Del Rio: Neat, don't care.
But as for Punk, I think guys like Shawn and JBL who haven't had a match since they retired are probably the new standard for wrestling retirements. People like Hogan, Flair, Funk, etc., who keep going because of their old carny mentality and the fact that they blew all their money were common. But after seeing how those guys ended up, the Benoit tradgey, the other wrestlers who actually were physically forced to retire because of injuries and concussions ala Edge, I think we'll see more guys end their wrestling careers in a good place.
That's not to say Punk won't be a commentator or do backstage segments or be an agent or something, but I think when he says his in ring career is over, then he's done. Hell I think Orton's going to be another guy who does the same thing. He's got like 6 to 7 years left on his contract, he'll be 40, made a ton of money and he's never struck me as the "keep going til you break" type.

I can see Punk retiring and then be completely done, the dude will be pretty much set for life, I'm sure that he'd be glad to get away from the constant headache that has to be working for the WWE with all of the insanity from management, and he's done pretty much all there is to do. He could retire tomorrow write a book and do a couple of conventions a year and live off of that for years. I could be wrong but I don't think that Punk needs wrestling like a lot of guys do.
I see Alberto as a guy that came to get that big payday and then roll out all like "Soy rico, perras"

Yeah, honestly I feel like a lot of guys like Punk and ADR will retire early and sort of take it easy and live life while they can still have full mobility.
I have no doubts that Cena will take after the likes of Hogan, Flair, and Funk though...

Punk retiring has been around for years now, it's just the Alberto deal that is a bit new to me.

I'm sure guys in the back talk about retiring all the time. Kane's been supposed to retire for years and years now. I'm sure most of them mean it when they say it. That being said, there's a difference between saying that you're going to retire and actually doing it. Professional Wrestling is addictive and it's hard to leave it.
It's also not necessary to leave it. With minor to major modifications to style wrestlers can stay healthy, competitive, and entertaining well past their prime. It's one of the reasons that Pro Wrestling has historically been an alluring career option for former college/pro athletes who suffered career ending injuries. Even though Pro Wrestling is physically demanding, it's structured in such a way that you can focus on your strengths, hide your weaknesses, and adjust your style to keep you away from injuries.
I think both guys will be around for quite a while still. I wouldn't rule out a Punk mini-retirement--but I think he'd come back after as short vacation.
