They'll probably just get another Mexican guy to play the part of Del Rio after the first one retires.

So....what's the update? Is your toe still ok! It was gonna get stubbed but plans changed. #NEWZ #MAYORMAYNOTBETRUE #SPURTSINNERTAINMENT #SongsOfSolomon Man, see? This is why I don't believe that shit. I mean, it's obvious he didn't know whether or not his toe was going to be stubbed so he framed it in a way where he couldn't be wrong. I called it as newz from the beginning. I don't see how anybody can believe that source.

Another report I read on this earlier said a "few years" which... came as no big surprise to me. I thought Punk wanted to retire in, say, 2015, and with the injuries he's received lately, that'd probably be good for him, and Del Rio said in an interview last year he'd like to retire in something like four to five years, wrestle his last match in Mexico and he said in another that he liked the WWE and would probably hang around to train the newer guys...

Punk won't retire. Spent much of his career wrestling in front of 12 people. Suddenly gonna give it up? Absolutely no chance Tim Thomas spent most of his career in the most minor and bush leagues and will probably retire soon He plays a legitimate sport.

Punk won't retire. Spent much of his career wrestling in front of 12 people. Suddenly gonna give it up? Absolutely no chance I'm not sure if you're a troll or just a massive dumbass. Honest to god. Either way, you're a disgrace to your namesake. How kind. Punk hasn't been making 'big money' for very long, maybe since 2008/09 since he got into the main event in WWE and likey then awarded the big-big contract. It's well and good to speak about retirement but there's a huge difference between speaking about it and doing it, in all walks of life, particularly wrestling. Especially when you're at the top. I don't think it's going to be that easy to just walk away on the basis that he said he would. Much of his career has been spent in much smaller promotions and on the indy scene where he wouldn't/couldn't have made that much particularly as a lot of it occurred in the mid 2000s when the wrestling scene was hardly booming. So you can only surmise what his career earnings pre-WWE were but I think it's an educated guess to assume they weren't huge. At least not 'retire early' huge. These last few years they would have been but in any form of entertainment there's a huge difference between intending on retiring - and doing it. Particularly when you're in a position to still make a lot of money. If you drop down the card like a rock or get injured then it's easier. But the occasions where someone, on top of their game, making the serious dough just says "You know what? I'm doing something else" is very few and far between and yet almost all at one point or another would have either publicly or privately said long before the day they were forced to give it up "I'll retire by the time I'm X" The real world doesn't play out like that 99% of the time so I'll take anyone telling me they'll retire by a pre-determine date, with a massive pinch of salt. I don't see how holding this opinion makes me a dumbass. Maybe I should try "I believe 100% everything a wrestler tells me" to get in your good books?

Punk's stated numerous times he's got a very specific timeline and post-wrestling projects lined up. He's a multi-millionaire and lives a frugal life, so I don't think the lure of money really holds that much appeal to him.

As I clicked on the thread I said to myself "please not cm punk please not cm punk please not cm punk"
But then I read it. And it did say CM Punk. But it's such a worthless report that I'm not fazed.

Punk's stated numerous times he's got a very specific timeline and post-wrestling projects lined up. He's a multi-millionaire and lives a frugal life, so I don't think the lure of money really holds that much appeal to him. Money, spot, whatever reason. He could well see through on his plan but I think it maybe wise to treat it (and all the other similar statements of intent by guys over the years) sceptically. Even if it isn't the money (and to be honest he'll be very unlikely to get make the kind he's getting now again) the business is like a drug. It's why so many guys beat themselves up on the indy scene for 50 bucks then use $45 of that to fill up the tank and drive half way across the country to do it all again. There's something about this business that's, for want of a better word, addictive. It's why so many people really struggle to give it up. Particularly those who have a love for the industry like Punk. He's in the business not because he saw it as a job but because he's always loved the sport. Those are the guys who have the hardest time walking away. Regardless of what their stated intentions are.

Punk's body is f***ed.... No, not by AJ. There you go, he's already a millionaire, these post-wrestling projects still exist, he doesn't 'have to' wrestle hurt but he is. Why? Because the arbitrary date for his retirement hasn't arrived? The fact he's working hurt just underlines his dedication to the business and why (IMO) he won't easily give it up. If you work with a back injury and rib cartilage issues, you're probably not the kind of person who once the circled date on the calendar arrives will find it easy to say "I'm done".

What a waste Del Rio's pushes and constant screen time would be if he had like a five year run, with very little to show for it.

Man it will be weird for Punk and Del Rio to be retired before Cena and Orton. I know Cena's the same age and Orton is a few years younger, but based on their timelines in wrestling it will just feel weird for Punk especially to be gone and Cena and Orton to still be kicking. It just wouldn't feel right.

Punk said he was retiring "sooner rather than later" like 2 years ago. In those exact words.

Punk has been saying this for a while now and I believe Del Rio said he wants to retire in 5 years in 2011 so that means we have him here for 3 more years at most. Punk's contract expires Summer next year so I'm not sure exactly how long we have left with him. Maybe he will do an extension for a year or two but we can't be too sure. I do remember him saying he will watch the Walking Dead when he "gets home" and then said "around 2015". A fan then said he's starting a rumor about when he's retiring and he replied "ain't a rumor if its true". With that said I'll say this.
Del Rio - Retires in 2016 CM Punk - Contract expires in 2014 but he signs on for an extra year to retire in 2015
They can give Punk one last babyface run before putting someone over on his way out, probably Ambrose given what he's said about him. Del Rio can put over the next big Mexican star on his way out as well.

Hmm, I guess this is true. I mean, it's not like he signed a contract recently in the past couple of years or anything. So he's pretty much free and clear when he wants to be.

The top three things to never believe when it comes to wrestling:
1. Retirements 2. Anything Punk says regarding contracts 3. That Sting has made a genuine new friend
Two out of three ain't bad.

I could see Punk going with a Jericho-like deal. Get out for a few years, then come back every so often for short runs to help get new talent over.
