..Heh heh, I made reference to the talk about the casual fan to Dan Slott on Facebook and he P.M'ed a tangent to me, here's our exchange Slott My response Was it really necessary to speak to him like such a condescending prick? Did that make you feel good about yourself? Yes actually What goes around, comes around...he's been much worse than that on multiple forums. If it puts your mind at ease, we exchanged a bit more after I posted that and we settled down, agreed/disagreed on a few things and joked about it afterwards

So, why exactly are people complaining about this?
They get to tell interesting stories about a world without Deus Ex Wolverine for a while.
What is so bad about that?

I don't think anyone is complaining as much as saying it's sort of a silly waste of time.

The only other one I can think of that matches that is Green Lantern.

We know, we just despair that the big two companies promote increadingly LESS amazing stuff these days in favour of publicity stunts when we know they are still capable of that. And as was stated earlier, it's just really insular storytelling. There's a reason graphic novel sales seem to be on the rise as of late, the monthly books are still using the same stale formulas everyone saw before in the 90's. Why go out to a newsstand and jump from title to title (that you normally wouldn't even read) just to see if so-and-so will survive despite the fact they're still alive in some other continuity and will probably be back in a few months, when you can either get your fill of your favorite superhero by seeing their latest film or buying a single collection of their adventures here and there, more than likely over the internet?

I believe they have done that. Ya, that's what the Wolverine Origins ongoing was about (or is, I stopped reading comics regularly around the time of Civil War/Infinite Crisis). It was Logan dealing with suddenly remembering everything how it's f***ed him up. EDIT: they just didn't take it to quite the extreme as above, but it was an interesting concept. How did it all turn out anyways? He found out he had a son. That son became the Wolverine for a while then he killed that son.

In all honesty, Superman's death and resurrection had the most far reaching consequences. Four new characters that have stuck around to various degrees that have either had their own titles or been major parts of other storylines, and have been woven into the fabric of the DC universe. THe villain of the piece has appeared multiple times, and though they've watered him down a bunch over time, he's still a character than can be talked about in hushed tones so to speak.
Beyond that though, is what the storyline of Supes resurrection led to for Green Lantern, with the destruction of Coast City leading into Hal becoming Parallax, which led to the creation of Kyle Rayner and everything after that; and then the retcon of Hal being taken over by the Parallax entity rather than being evil himself (which I'm not a fan of, but eh), and that addition to the GL mythos, and all that's added to the DCU sprining from that.
Really, Superman's short term death and resurrection and the wellspring of ideas that burst forth from that is the one example of killing a character off and bringing them back leading to many other things that were better than they were before, and changing the universe in its wake.
Everything spiraling off of Superman is pretty fitting really.

Call me cynical but I seriously doubt that Marvel is going to permanently kill off one of their biggest cash cow characters.
They will find some bullshit way to bring him back pronto.

The only other one I can think of that matches that is Green Lantern. That's why I like Cyclops' death and resurrection, it has consequences that are still being felt today. Before he was the goody two shoes of the X-Men, he'd done questionable things, but like most comics they were dismissed. After that point he became more selfish, more ruthless and gradually turned into who he is today. Whereas you had Colossus die saving the mutant race because his own tragedy overwhelmed him, and he came back to... sit in the background and punch things.
