The guy has a great heart. Some people will always hate him no matter what which is a shame because he really gives everything to wrestling and despite all the fame and success he has, he always has time for kids and people. Will be a very sad day when he retires from pro wrestling.

Here's another example of Cena being great, not sure how recent it is This happened on Tuesday. I don't want to post the news story because it mentions the city she lives in and whatnot but IIRC Raw was in Cleveland, and this would be about a 5-6 hour drive from there, a bit south of Cincinnati. It's about 5 minutes from where I live. I can't stand the guy's character on TV but knowing the lengths the guy goes through for charity/sick kids it's hard to hate ANY aspect of the guy.

This is why I get annoyed when people talk crap about Cena. He's the nicest guy ever, he does so, so much to help people and charities, and he works through injuries because he doesn't want to let fans down. Dude's just f***ing awesome.

I've never understood why WWE can't channel Cena's awesome real life personality into that of his character.

No one really questions or boos Cena as a person.
It's his WRESTLING gimmick that I'm tired of.

There's a special place in the after life for people like Cena. The guy cares about his fans, far beyond what is expected of him.

I've never understood why WWE can't channel Cena's awesome real life personality into that of his character. This so much! It takes a special kind of suckage to be able to take the nicest guy ever and, using your (lack of) booking skills, make people boo him out of the building as a babyface on a regular basis.

I do, and will always love what he does for sick kids. I lived in a hospital until I was 3, and most of the kids in the unit with me were terminally or chronically ill. I look at people who help those kids as people who help my family, it's just that simple.
I will continue to change the channel when I hear Cena's music hit for a match or a wrestling promo, because I don't enjoy his character. However, if it is mentioned that there will be a segment like he did with the three kids from RAW a while back, I will not only watch but call friends and get them to watch.
I hear often about fans who can't make the distinction between person and character, usually relating to Cena or Triple H, but in both cases I see men who I can and do respect for what they do outside of the ring (Triple H and Steph are both very active with children's charities and programs promoting early childhood health). The simple fact is that this does not, nor does it need to, translate into "I love their character".
There is a Vince story that JBL has told that also relates. JBL was starting up a charity where he would go to various third world countries, run sports camps and help with money, food, medicine, and the like. He didn't have to do it, it didn't get a ton of press, but he did it. He went to Vince, told him what was going on, and per JBL, Vince handed him a huge check and said the one condition was that Vince's name not get leaked. The donation had nothing to do with public praise, it was something he did because he could and it was the right thing to do.
Bam Bam Bigelow, as some may recall, once ran into a fire to save two kids. This was toward the end of his run, and I remember the stories that no one backstage was surprised by his act of courage and selflessness (he was hurt in the act). Now did this mean that when he came back he had to be an uber-face? No, he came back a while later as a heel. I booed his on screen actions, though I never forgot that, should I ever meet the man, the first thing I would do would be to shake his hand.
Cena is the same way for me. Outside of the ring, he's a guy who, hopefully not to too much of an extreme, has foregone his own personal life to make helping sick kids one of his top priorities. People like him are special, and they deserve to be lauded for it, and threads like this are small tributes to the kind of man he is. The thing is, if a couple of uber-heels like Trips and Vince can do a lot of good without getting their name out there, then asking to separate the man from the character across the board shouldn't be hard.
EDIT: No shame in admitting it. I watched the video, twice. I cried, no little bits, no holding back. I've gone into my box of memories, my keepsakes box, and I have a picture from a girl that's around her age, she was in the hospital with me and drew me a picture that I have kept with me for three decades plus. It's on my desk right now.

It seems a little off, when things like this about Cena are shown, that people feel the need to make sure that they mention their dislike for his character before praising the man. As if just praising the man by itself would somehow incite a reaction of "ha! I knew you liked his wrestling character!", and even so, as if that would be too much to handle. So in order to prevent that, we better make sure that doesn't happen and get it out of the way that we dislike the character, so that we don't get a possible reaction like that after we compliment the man John Cena for his years of dedication to putting smiles on the faces of ill, and sometimes terminally-ill, children.
I feel that visiting terminally-ill children has got to be the toughest job out there for an entertainer. I would feel like I possibly wouldn't live up to their expectations, ect. Hogan described the difficulty in his book, how he wrestled about wanting to talk about his faith with them, but was worried about what their parents might think. I have the utmost respect for John Cena.

The man truly is a class act and quite possibly a real life superhero. I might groan whenever he shows up on Raw, but he will forever have my respect and admiration. It can't be easy to do this all the time, but you can tell he really enjoys making people happy and truly wants to help them fight.

I've never understood why WWE can't channel Cena's awesome real life personality into that of his character. Yes, when I boo Cena, it is never against him. It is what WWE has done with him to overshadow his real nice guy personality with all this crap when he can't go too far because we don't want to look bad. He can't want to beat a man half to death for beating and injurying his father (see Cena at the 2014 Royal Rumble). It's WWE Creative being the morons that they are.

I don't mind them doing some new stuff with Cena, but I hope he never does turn full on heel. While it is scripted can you imagine how the poor kids would take it? I don't think Hogan ever had this connection with the kids. He at least didn't do the work Cena does with them. Oh no, Hogan did a ton of stuff for kids. Hospital visits, charity appearences, personal messages and so on. Maybe not quite Cena levels, but then Cena's in a category of his own with all this. Hogan did plenty and enjoyed it. I remember him saying the one thing that bummed him out most about the nWo heel turn, and the largest of the reasons why he was so hesistant about it, was that it meant he couldn't do the kid meet 'n' greets anymore because he was committed to the heel character. Even though it's one of the greatest heel turns ever for us, for the younger fans who were still onboard with the Hulkster it was a heartbreaker.

Sometimes I think Cena would be freshened up with a heel turn.
Then again, nobody ever reads Captain America and thinks "This Character is so stale, I wish he'd align himself with the Red Skull"
If Cena gets to do things like this at the expense of a few jaded smarks like myself, then good for him.

God Cena instead of pandering to the disabled kids to get support you should spend more time in a ring to work on your WRESTLING moves! BUMMER! You'll never be as good as CM Punk no matter how hard you try. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}calm down, it's obviously a joke

I don't know about that. There are some truly lousy people out there, where any deviation from what they want is unforgivable and an excuse for all sorts of nasty actions or statements. Look at the comic book fandom. Cena doesn't even try to potray a badass and that kind of Attitude Era character is all some are interested in. For people who want Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns Batman Adam West's Batman is an insult and even the JLU Batman who sat with a dying kid supervillain isn't good enough

In this day and age with so much cynicism and sarcasm in wrestling it warms my heart that some kids genuinely love a wrestler for his character and are inspired by it.
