Many of us may wish that his character would get some form of change it desperately needs; but the guy's a quality dude. KCCO. I legit just cried watching this lol

Captain America comparison doesn't really work at all though, given the tragedy that character has been through, the times he's relinquished the role etc. Cap is way less static than they make Cena.
That said, Cena the real guy, again, is a good dude.

I don't think there's any reason to turn Cena heel at this point.
-He's a living, breathing goldmine based upon his house show drawing power and merchandising strength. -As Cena's character is cavalier and fearless, he'd probably be booked as a boring invincible type like Reign of Terror-era Triple H. Who really wants a repeat of that? -They're desperately short on faces as it is, and Cena's the best one they have not named Daniel Bryan.
And then there's this. If he can make differences in people's lives (including his own) by being the chivalrous do-gooder, let him! It's worth a lot more than pleasing a faction of internet wrestling fans.

I've never understood why WWE can't channel Cena's awesome real life personality into that of his character. I just think a lot of people would react negatively. People say Cena's a bad friend onscreen. If he actually did come to the rescue of every face that needed it, I know he'd be accused of stealing people's heat. Tries to console someone who suffered some problem? It's sappy or insincere. Bring out a Make a Wish kid every week and he's using them to get over.

This so much! It takes a special kind of suckage to be able to take the nicest guy ever and, using your (lack of) booking skills, make people boo him out of the building as a babyface on a regular basis. I don't know about that. There are some truly lousy people out there, where any deviation from what they want is unforgivable and an excuse for all sorts of nasty actions or statements. Look at the comic book fandom. Cena doesn't even try to potray a badass and that kind of Attitude Era character is all some are interested in. For people who want Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns Batman Adam West's Batman is an insult and even the JLU Batman who sat with a dying kid supervillain isn't good enough I think this is what it all boils down to, and "gritty" or "badass" anti-heroes will never draw anything from me but massive eyerolls.

By booing a guy like that, they'd basically be admitting that they just hate him for existing, and it's not for any character reasons or anything remotely logical or changeable. So f*** them. f*** them in their stupid asses. At least by making Cena more consistent, and by showing his more human side, it'd give the people on the fence something actually tangible to get behind. Instead of Vince's cartoon avatar of whatever he wants him to be at that particular time.

For quite a while I've seen the "Keep calm and chive on" shirts and had absolutely no idea what the reference was. Now I do.
Also, this is the reason why John Cena will be a top guy for a long time and probably won't get much character tweaking. The guy gives his all for what he does.

And this is why John Cena's character should never ever change, stale to us or not.
A good part of the reason that Cena does ten million charity events and appearances is because his character, for whatever reason, connects with kids that watch. When these kids are getting their ass kicked by whatever is ailing them, they want to talk to the guy that "never gives up" that they see on tv every week.
Hogan's turn was fine, because he just did celebrity appearances. Cena's a different animal. He's become the face of WWE's charity endeavors, and frankly, a lot of them are a hell of a lot more important than the weekly episodic hoop dee do that's on Raw & Smackdown. Give me stale John Cena for the rest of my life, I'm okay with that. Just throw in a video of some kid's life getting completely lit up every so often to remind us all why.

Cena makes video for boy with undiagnosed disorder and yet some smarks still boo him, because he wins a lot of matches.

When I met his parents before Raw a few years ago, I told them the 2 times I met Cena were some of the most fun days of my life. His dad's response: John would love knowing that. He loves and appreciates the fans.

Ok, I was gonna keep my mouth shut but people going "HOW CAN PEOPLE STILL BOO CENA AFTER THIS!?" is beyond obnoxious. Please stop, if you don't know why people don't like John Cena by now, you'll never understand.
Don't get me wrong, this is awesome and Cena is that dude for doing it but stop using it as an excuse to push your "agenda" for lack of a better word.

I remember reading somewhere that when Hulk Hogan was first approached about turning heel -- I want to say a year or two before the nWo -- he turned it down and said something like 'you'd have to walk a mile in my boots to understand.' He was talking about the kids who looked up to him and his own make-a-wish type experiences and not wanting to let those kids down.
Don't ever change, John Cena. You are a hero.

Clear out folks, the po-po's here. We can't have nice things. I absolutely hate that a thread about someone doing something so good gets used as another excuse to start discussions about wrestling booking. Can we ever turn it off for just a second and enjoy a good moment? That goes out on both sides of the debate. It couldn't feel any more trivial in a thread like this. I love seeing these stories, and I love the stories I never hear about. Any time someone can take the smallest steps towards making someone feel good, then you're alright in my book. John Cena continually goes above and beyond to make these kids feel better... to give them a little bit of time where they can forget that they're sick. To me, that means more than anything else he'll ever do. He's the biggest star of this era and may very well end up with the most world title wins all time, but every single kid he's spent time with? That's what matters. All the respect in the world to John and every other WWE Superstar or just people in general that do whatever they can to make life easier for the people who need it.

Captain America comparison doesn't really work at all though, given the tragedy that character has been through, the times he's relinquished the role etc. Cap is way less static than they make Cena. That said, Cena the real guy, again, is a good dude. I didn't exactly put my original post in the context I'd intended, so I guess I should explain myself... Cena, the character, definitely needs some freshening up. They do that for the Captain America character, Superman, Batman, Wolverine, all the time. To tie into my original post, Cap's been shot, he's been disowned, he's been Nomad, he's been the Director of SHIELD, etc. and so on and so forth. But he's never, ever, EVER turned his back on being a "good guy". By that same token, I think a heel turn for Cena would be the same. What I DO want for the character, though, is more vulnerability. That's what makes the good Captain a great character. He's legit been through some real trials and tribulations. He doesn't always get away clean in victory. But that's what makes him great - he doesn't change who he is even though he doesn't always come across like an invincible badass. That's what Cena needs - less Mary Sue with a little more drama in his booking.
