People say it on this board every single superhero movie. It's actually kind of embarrassing at this point. I've never seen a goodly amount of posts like that. I mean, you'd have to be really out of touch to think that a MCU film will bomb at this point. And I say that as someone who doesn't even really like MCU films for the most part. But they're mobbed up with Disney and have a formula that earns bucco dolores (/Adam Scott voice). They could put out a film that has an hour of action and an hour of the avengers farting on Cap's shield and it would still make bank. There have definitely been some posts like that every time a Marvel movie is announced. I do see it more other places though.

Yahoo is full of articles from hack writers trying to claim that Marvel is "doomed" every time a new movie comes out. That's probably the place where I've seen it the worst.

It's pretty much become the "Nintendo is doomed!" articles... that have been coming out since the n64.

Define bust though, like a legitimate bomb or just not Marvel's normal profit margin. Cuz at this point, I don't know that I'd expect a legit bomb. As you pointed out, even Incredible Hulk made money once foreign markets kicked in; and the studio has had nearly a decade of good will since. Marvel Studios will never produce an outright box office bomb. Even if Robert Downey Jr. is in his 90s and Chris Evans is using a walker, they'll never cease to make legitimate money. But like I said, I think "Doctor Strange" will be the lowest grossing Marvel movie yet. I predicted $116 million domestic and $231 million worldwide and I'll stand by it. Again, that's not a legitimate box office bomb but for a Marvel movie it'll be on the low end. And for what it's worth, the only Marvel movie I predicted would flop in the Marvel sense prior to "Doctor Strange" was "Ant-Man". I haven't said it about any other movie from that studio.

It's Marvel, which obviously has a huge built-in geek fanbase, a substantial casual audience, and eight years of built-up goodwill. Throw in Cumberbatch, who has a huge geek fanbase of his own (though there is some crossover between the two), and thanks to his last couple of movies he has gained some traction as a leading man.
With the Marvel hype machine behind it I'd say it'll rake in at least $500 million worldwide.
I genuinely don't see any Marvel movies hitting Incredible Hulk levels again until there's been a steady drop in box office numbers over a number of releases.

I don't think I can wait until November. I need this movie in my life yesterday. I'm such a mark for this character, it's highly possible this could be my new favorite Marvel movie.

Was coming here to post it... very nice.
Still don't know who the villain is yet, doesn't seem like Nightmare or Dormy really fit...
think they could be going for Shuma Gorath?

I gotta admit, I liked the Wi-Fi password gag.
Only thing that bugs me is how jarring to see Cumberbatch use an American accent.

Maybe it's the one that caused Mads Mikkelsen's character to turn evil. Mads is the villain I believe. Nightmare and Dormy aren't really possessors. Shuma Gorath has possessed people in the past. edit: looking it up they may have stated the name of who he is playing... which I hadn't heard.

I am an unashamed Benedict Cumberbatch fangirl so seeing him in a Marvel movie is a dream come true. Plus this looks to be some trippy weird shit so I'm totally down.

This baby will be debuting with DS, if that trailer is anything to go by. Fanfare by Michael Giacchino, who is also doing DS's score.

hmm it's nice but I think I like the plain issues logo they've been using better.
