Made me think of Iron Man, Daredevil and Batman Begins.
Anyway, it seems like there's always skepticism toward Marvel films featuring new characters. Everyone swore Guardians of the Galaxy would be bad, and it turned into one of the most popular MCU films. Everyone thought Ant Man would suck, but it was well-received for the most part. I suspect we'll see a similar scenario with Dr. Strange.
If anything, Inhumans is the film I predict will have a weak performance. At least, if Agents of Shield is any indication.

Looks good...no sign of any quips either, though I just know they'll still be part of proceedings.
Guardians is overrated, and, to me, was a definite let-down. Ant-Man was great, but that had spent a near decade being cooked and blended elements of strong creative ideas from it's infant stages with the usual cookie-cutter Marvel vibe we've come to expect.
This looks like it's gonna be Marvel doing a Nolan, with elements of Batman Begins and Inception tossed in there.

Tumblr is mad because there are white people in this movie.
Whatever, I get the complaint about the Ancient One. The complaint about a white, male actor being cast as a white, male character is beyond me. No, there's nothing inherently white about the character Steven Strange, but I'm not going to fault Marvel for taking the comic panel and turning it into live action.
I've started reading stuff in the New 52 (DC I know), but they've changed races on a few characters so flippantly, that I guess I don't really care at this point?
The studios are going to do whatever, regardless of comics, so eh, whatever?

Yeah, Tilda Swinton. Maybe she is more like the host of the Ancient One in this?

Tumblr complains about everything, I wouldn't put too much stock in their opinion.

Looks good. Definite Inception vibe in there, maybe some of the Nanda Parbat scenes from Batman Begins.
Either way, Tilda Swinton is just too good, so her being the Ancient One is fine with me. Subvert stereotypes. The ancient mystical master isnt an old Asian man, shock horror!
Now, just tell me who Mads is playing!

I'm calling it right now (although I reserve the right to take this back in November if I'm wrong): this is going to be the first Marvel Studios movie to be a box office bust.
As it stands right now, the 2008 version of "The Incredible Hulk" is the lowest-grossing Marvel Studios movie, pulling in $134.8 million domestic and $263.4 million worldwide. I predict that when it's all said and done, "Doctor Strange" will be the new standard bearer for that title. If I had to put numbers on it, I'll project $116 million domestic and $231 million worldwide.

As a man who has, how can I put this generously, less than stellar looks, I really shouldn't be casting aspersions at someone else for the way they look. But for the life of me, I'll never understand how people find Benedict Cumberbatch attractive. He looks like what would happen if Patrick Swayze f***ed a Stretch Armstrong doll and then that offspring got run over by a steamroller.

Define bust though, like a legitimate bomb or just not Marvel's normal profit margin. Cuz at this point, I don't know that I'd expect a legit bomb. As you pointed out, even Incredible Hulk made money once foreign markets kicked in; and the studio has had nearly a decade of good will since.

I don't understand why people are betting on Dr. Strange to bomb/underperform. While I never agreed with it, I could see why people would expect GotG to fail. With its troubled production, I can understand why people weren't expecting Ant-Man to succeed. But what's the deal with Dr. Strange? Is it just because of Cumberbatch? Or do people just not think the character is marketable? I just don't get it.

Dude basically looks like someone painted a face on a thumb. That said, as someone who has no clue about Doctor Strange and doesn't even f*** with Benny Thumbs like that, I think this movie has the potential to be amazing. Besides, it's got Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mads Mikkelsen, and I've yet to see either of those men do less than stellar in anything.

Considering there's been predictions of "This will be the first Marvel film to flop at the box-office" since like, the first Iron Man, I'm kind of inclined to just wait until the film comes out and see how good it is for myself.

As long as they stuck to a reasonable budget I'm sure they'll be fine.

I mean, you'd have to be really out of touch to think that a MCU film will bomb at this point. And I say that as someone who doesn't even really like MCU films for the most part. But they're mobbed up with Disney and have a formula that earns bucco dolores (/Adam Scott voice). They could put out a film that has an hour of action and an hour of the avengers farting on Cap's shield and it would still make bank.
