Right Said Fred is the obvious choice here.

Not even one mention of the Man in Black? That's disappointing.

I don't think Elvis belongs on there. Yes, the guy was talented and had charisma, but he's overrated as a musician. Many of his songs were written by other people, yet he gets credit for them because he was the face and voice behind them. Elvis became insanely popular because young American WASPs were eager to embrace rock-&-roll, but the prejudice of Jim Crow radio and television broadcasters discouraged them from getting behind the black artists who pioneered the sound that Elvis appropriated. If Elvis had been black like the artists that influenced him, he probably wouldn't have eclipsed Chuck Berry or Little Richard in terms of popularity and longevity. Even though Chuck Berry praised Elvis as 'the greatest,' he still pointed out that "Blacks didn't have the air-waves Elvis had." Once again, I do not mean to suggest that Elvis was a bad performer or artist, just that he probably wouldn't have gotten as big as he did if aforementioned circumstances weren't in his favour. Whereas Elvis had a tremendous societal advantage over other artists, Michael Jackson earned his popularity in spite of the fact that MTV was reluctant to air his videos because the channel's executives were convinced that audiences would not appreciate seeing music videos by a black artist. I think the argument for Elvis is that he has become such a major icon. You made plenty of good points, though. I think it's the same way that many would put Marilyn Monroe on a Mt. Rushmore for classic Hollywood actresses, but fewer would say Greer Garson. It's about the legacy and iconic status.

I would say Right Said Fred but we all know he is too sexy for Mt. Rushmore. They. Right Said Fred is the name of the band. Fred was one of the members of the band but not the singer, the singer is Richard, the other bald guy on guitar is his brother, Fred.

Prince, Madonna, Outkast, Jay-z, Beyonce and Mariah Carey all have tremendous cases for entries on this Mt Rushmore

They referred to themselves as "I" in the song so I referred to them as "he" ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Not even one mention of the Man in Black? That's disappointing. When I was making my list I considered Cash. I think Cash should be on there depending on what you're trying to represent. Just influence maybe, popularity sure, being just plain badass for sure.

Shouldn't Jazz be represented if it's about Western (I'm guessing this means American) music? Throw Armstrong or Charlie Parker up there.

as much as i would love to see Slash or Izzy Stradlin or Axl on there...part of me feels perhaps either Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley would be on there...KISS has moved beyond music and is more pop culture...just feel KISS would have to enter this conversation somewhere.

How about this... Just put Lennon and McCartney both on there, then don't even worry about finding a fourth person. That takes up the four spots.
