Didn't he do that already with his run as part of The Shield? Seriously, I really don't want to have to ask if some people think those big reactions were just for Rollins and Ambrose. It was the unit as a whole. He was a big part of what made it work, yeah, but he really hasn't been able to translate it into much as a solo star and it feels like they're doing everything possible to keep from giving him his own identity to try and leech off of the residual love for the Shield. I get the feeling that Creative honestly doesn't know what else to do with him without reverting him into yet another "Wild Samoan" stereotype with a sarong and face paint... |

My problem is I wish they would actually attempt to make his fan embrace come naturally, instead of making it painfully obvious that this is their guy.

It was the result I was most surprised by and the only one that I suspected was WWE's call and not the real result.
In kayfabe, Brock Lesnar, Daniel Bryan, and John Cena are really the only candidates for Superstar of the Year. Lesnar defeated The Streak and beat John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Obviously with fan voting he is not going to win.
WrestleMania was largely booked around Daniel Bryan and setting him up for a big moment. You could easily make a case for him DESPITE being out for most of the year. I would have expected a lot of votes for him.
John Cena won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, was in the top mix for the whole year, main eventing most PPVs. I would have expected a lot of votes for him as well.
In kayfabe, what makes Roman Reigns the Superstar of the Year? He broke the Royal Rumble eliminations record. Okay. He still didn't win the Royal Rumble. Before the breakup of the Shield, they were dominant. Yes, but the Shield was a group of three. What did he do as an individual? Be attacked by Seth Rollins and then not really care? Remember, that is how that storyline played out for awhile. Roman Reigns's biggest singles win was defeating Randy Orton at SummerSlam. Is that enough to make him Superstar of the Year? No. I am skeptical that he actually won the fan vote, but I suppose it's possible. His winning the award makes no sense.

Not for nothing, but since such a big deal was always made out of Reigns as the powerhouse of The Shield and there was an equally big deal being made at the time of Cesaro as one of the strongest on the roster, I figured a feud between the two of them practically wrote itself. I also recently suggested the idea of building Reigns slowly by having him be the one to retire some other powerhouses like Mark Henry and Kane. |

You mean Dean Ambrose didn't win some mostly irrelevant award?!!  Oh well I'll get over it  To be fair,it is not so much about the award itself,and more about the award tell us about the WWE plans. To me, it's WWE blatantly going against anything that makes any sense. I watched every show this year, and Roman Reigns didn't have the best year. It makes me feel lied to and patronized as a viewer. It's the way I felt the entire show, before I fell asleep halfway in. The awful Slammy categories, the self-congratulatory nature of it all, it was really bad. I get the feeling that WWE is deliberately trying to drive away people that watch the show with their brains turned on. And it's working. |

I think I hated the "make Reigns look strong" meme before it even existed. It's just put a "name" to a sentiment many have had for months. As for Reigns keeping the Shield attire... Well, it really can go either way. Either he does what Bret Hart did with the pink and black Hart Foundation attire and make it his own (personally, I like the Tron effect he seems to be going for), or he ends up like Marty Jannetty in 1996. So what you're saying is Reigns should wear Bret's attire? I don't know if he'd look good in pink and black. |

The crowd popped for it and they popped for him. They actually had a great list this year, and while Reigns was probably one of the least deserving at least the fans didn't shit on it - and better yet, at least he was actually THERE, unlike the winners of multiple other awards that night. Sting? Jericho?

Ya know what would make me mind less? If he finally gets rid of his Shield gear and music. The other two have struck out on their own and moved on, yet he's the douche who's still running around like the Shield's still a thing. In an interview he said the vest was actually helping him work through his injuries. * Complain that no new stars get pushed. * New star is pushed. * Complain that new star is getting pushed. The internet, ladies and gentlemen. Except most of what is in this thread aren't complaints as much as criticisms and most are constructive. I love the over the top Reigns hate. I voted for him just for that reason. Really, I haven't even seen the guy get shoved down our throats, and he's still getting pops from the live crowds, so obviously they don't think that way. It's different when you're reading about him getting over pushed for several months and are waiting for it to happen.

Another idea: what if they turned Paul Heyman face and paired him with Roman. Maybe Heyman walks to the entrance way, does his my name is spiel, then introduces Roman. Heyman leaves as he want the attention on only Roman. I would be down for this. Like, so down for this. And, I don't know, I think a tweener Heyman advocating for a strong, badass face Roman Reigns could work. I just...I want good things for Roman. I almost feel bad for the guy, you know? Because I think he has all the potential in the world they just need to figure a good way to fit all those pieces together in the puzzle. |
