This is the thread that will finally decide which of these fighting game franchises are truly the best Street Fighter. I want no Mortal Kombat bias, but Street Fghter bias is ok. As will all know, the most important factor to any figting game, are the characters. Who is the most iconic character in each series? Our first contestant is one of the most recognisable characters in all video games. This character is so iconic, other fighting games have ripped him off, and presented them as their own character, such as Akira from Vitua Fighter, and Nina Williams from Tekken. In fact, people were ripping off this character before he was even created. That's how original he is. It's Ryu! When you think of Mortal Kombat, this is the character that always comes to mind first. In fact, they should just rename the game after him. It's Mokap! The winner will be decided when the Street Fighter character has the most votes.

To be honest, most of the characters of Street Fighter have the advantage over Mortal Kombat ones in that they're fun characters. Guys like Zangief, Rainbow Mika and Dan especially just are fun to play as and see on the screen. MK's grimdark just has a negative impact on that front.

I've reported this thread to the Mortal Kombat is Best Foundation. The "enforcers" are on their way...leave the door unlocked, it's easier if you don't struggle.

My favorite roster is probably King Of Fighters (Benimaru is a boss), but the Street Fighter cast are a close second, followed by Tekken's.
I don't have anything against MK (love the first movie), but I've always stunk at it. With SF I'm not exactly Daigo but I can manage.

Mortal Kombat for Sega Genesis is the best game in the world (Come on, you knew that was coming) I disagree, it's a very good game, but I think Donkey Kong is the best game ever.

I'd hardly call Mortal Kombat "grimdark". It's the cheesiest shit ever, always has been, and it knows it. I'll always love it more than Street Fighter but I do love both.

Both franchises need to tone it down.
The special moves on SF are becoming absurd now, and the gore on MK is just overbearing.

I'll vote for Street Fighter.
I think both are pretty awesome. Twenty years ago I'd say Mortal Kombat all the way, because of the gore and controversy. But Steet Fighter is just a little more fun and easy and I think my son would have more fun playing it with me. Now mind you, I'm basing my thoughts on games that are twenty years old. The last Mortal Kombat I pkayed was Deadly Alliance. The last Street Fighter I played was 2: Turbo and a few arcade ones ten to fifteen years ago I barely remember.

For anyone who thinks MK is a serious franchise, just going to leave this here: Anyway, I'm with Mortal Kombat. There's too many Street Fighter games to keep up with and in the classic games, most special moves were impractical because of how complicated they are to set up. Mortal Kombat has always been easier to follow (and play). I also like that they don't try to make any one character the face of their franchise. Scorpion's the closest they have to that, but they never shied away from giving a lot of attention to Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Raiden, Kitana, Shao Kahn and others.

They do give attention to the other people (for instance storywise I don't believe Scorpion has ever won the tournament) But to say Scorpion isn't the face of the franchise is wrong. Hell he was one of the main reasons they quickly came out with ULTIMATE Mortal Kombat 3. When he wasn't in the original.. not to mention which Mortal Kombat fighter appeared in Injustice... and was front and center on the Mortal Kombat side of the MK vs. DCU box art.
