I won't lie. My inner Demolition/Road Warriors/Powers of Pain fan just marked after watching that.
It's cheesy, but if* they play it as deliberately over the top, it could be pretty awesome. I'll take that kind of silly over Los Matadores silly ... and dammit, if I can't have Rybaxel, these guys will fill the void as a goofball heel team.
* Yes, I know it's a big-ass if, and they'll probably play it straight and ruin everything. Let me dream, dammit.

I could assume that it had more to do with the overall presentation of wrestling at the time with a stronger emphasis on the sports aspect of it as opposed the current presentation style of... whatever it is they're trying to do. Seems like a bit of everything at this point. |

I much preferred the Ascension when they looked like JRPG boss characters, so the new look is definitely a step in the right direction for me.

I really liked it. As a HUGE demolition mark I really enjoyed that. I miss the big over-the-top face painted tag teams (Demolition, Road Warriors, Powers of Pain).
I could see them getting over big with the younger crowd.

Having just seen their vignette, it reminded me very much of an indy promotion doing a Legion of Doom/Demolition tribute gimmick.
And hopefully, said promo guarantees that they don't end up becoming Bray Wyatt's goons.

Seems like a bit of everything at this point. It's tough to qualify, given the differences in today's product. It strikes me that the "80s style" promos and matches only work straight when a legend from that era shows up, and gets the nostalgia pop for doing his old shtick. For an up and coming wrestler in the current "era", the cocaine-fueled screamy promos seem ill-fitting unless there's a moderate dose of comedy, to justify the more comic-bookish approach compared to the rest of the roster. Not that I'd want JBL in all-out "I LOVE IT, MAGGLE" mode whenever the Ascension are on screen, but I think they definitely need to aim for some intentional cheesiness, right around where Rybaxel used to be. |

Seriously... with Los Matadores, The Vaudevillains and now The Ascension is there any doubt that beaver-boy's became a CHIKARA fan recently?
f*** maybe the main roster will just kinda implode and they focus on NXT for a year. (Until the NWO, Nexus, The 4 Horsemen, D-Generation X, The Nation of Domination and, the most powerful group of all time, Evolution show up and steal the gate money from Regal.)
