Around this time last year we were being told that the breakout stars of 2014 would be Roman Reigns, Big E Langston and Summer Rae. And the TV of November and December backed it up, with Big E winning the IC belt in a way that actually made it seem important and meaningful, then ending the year main eventing Raw with Cena and Punk against the Shield and having a staredown with Reigns that made them seem like equally hot prospects. Plus a load of Diva tags around that time seemed to be booked to showcase Summer's comic talent.
In the end, only the least exciting of those three got the megapush, and a year on Big E is in one of the most dead-on-arrival stables since, well, DOA, and Summer has just been dropped from Total Divas and is a likely victim if they decide to wield the axe again in the new year.

Dan Rodimer.
AKA the Tough Enough guy that Stephanie apparently had a huge thing for, and it was supposed to lead to this uber-mega push for the guy.
Thankfully that never happened. The guy wasn't very good at all. Although I would've been morbidly curious to see how long it would last.

in 1999 there were constant rumors , Billy Gunn would be pushed to the moon - I wanted it to happen , now looking it probably was a good idea it didnt happen. This being around the same time Paul Wight was gonna be named Titan,& Jericho was going to be called Excalibur Well, he did win the King of the Ring and feud with The Rock, pretty big push. I'm not Gunn's biggest fan, but I have to take issue with this myth that he was pushed with any real effort. His 'push' was kinda stalled out of the gate. A month after KOTR, he and Chyna lose clean as a sheet to X-Pac and Road Dogg in a tag match for 'The rights to the DX name'. Then he begins the aforementioned feud with the Rock, which consisted of Rock buying the shit out of him on the mic and then beating him fairly easily at Summerslam. 'Bout a month or so later he's back to tagging with Road Dogg in the reformed heel DX. Look, I'm not saying Billy Gunn was going to be this huge singles star, but the reality is, his 'big push' was botched and not entirely by any fault of his

Yeah, they actually had decent chemistry. Could have really been something had they wanted to do ANYTHING with Kaval in the first place. Really, as much crap Ki gets, I'm in the camp of WWE really didn't want him to win NXT2 the first place.

Really, as much crap Ki gets, I'm in the camp of WWE really didn't want him to win NXT2 the first place. I don't think WWE wanted anyone to win that one. NXT2 felt like it was more to give the midcard pros something to do than pushing the "rookies".

About 5 or 6 year ago I think, there was a rumour that Goldust was going to have a WWE title feud with John Cena, that could have been cool.

WWE should realize this by now, and of all those guys; Ki was the guy who had the potential for the most success. It makes me scratch my head that Triple H is so high on guys like Balor, Itami and Neville when Ki has been just as strong of a worker.

Didn't Kaval give Ziggler a concussion that killed any chance of them using him beyond that point? I think he was pulled from Bragging Rights in favor Tyler Reks after that or something like that.

On paper, he's great: really over, big, athletic, safe in the ring, can work with anyone But in execution, Billy Gunn: singles star was way too shitty to even bother caring about his push. So, I do think there's some fault on his part, mostly sucking as a singles guy because he always did. ESPECIALLY as a heel, controlling the flow of the match is not his game in the slightest.

Gunn is fine in tag matches, but him and James are 90 % an entrance. Combined, 5 keys moves, other than that, mainly just brawlers.
Too many guys were coming down the pike at the time, had to make the most of your chance. Look what happened to Jericho, who premiered around the time Gunn was being pushed. Seemed like he would be a major player right away, but didn't build steam again until maybe WM2000.
The reformation of DX helped everyone involved, making them relevant to some degree, add Steph, boom.

That happened after the Bragging Rights crap where he got on the team by not losing to Big Show in 5 minutes, then was immediately challenged by Reks for the spot and lost. It was a month after that on Smackdown, he concussed Ziggler with the Tidal Crush to get his only main roster win and used his NXT Title shot to challenge Ziggler at Survivor Series for the IC Title. Then he was released a month after that.

Whatever happened to Alex Reily, was he released? WWE lost Kennedy, I thought it was fortunate for them that they got another arrogant big mouth like him.

Not so much a disappointing one, but for the first half of 2013 it seemed like they were trying really hard to push The Miz as a possible top face and I will never understand why.
