The Ramones thread gave me the idea to do this thread. For me it would be hearing Enter Sandman around the mid-90s and digging it. I got the Black Album soon after, and a month or so after that i picked up Master of Puppets at a flea market and it instantly became one of my favorite albums upon first listening.

Probably 9 or 10, back in the early 90s. I Call them a gateway band, since they got me into other bands like... well Macabre, Nucular Assault, Carcass and Megadeth (for Holy Wars).
Oh.. forgot Suicidal Tendencies
You can't bring me down.....

Wow, I got such a happy feeling thinking back to this. I was maybe 14, browsing through the radio stations that you could listen to with satellite television (think it was XM or something). I already enjoyed metal at this point but I never really listened to Metallica. When I got to the metal station, they were playing "Whiplash" and I got HYPED listening to it. Just a fun memory for me.

Hearing "Black Album" songs on the radio as a kid. My older sister's boyfriend had a 'The Unforgiven' cassette tape single in his car, which I swiped and listened to a lot. This would have been around 1991 or 1992.

Ditto, except I never bought anything other than the black album.

On a camping trip when I was 15 or so. My mate Ian had Ride the Lightning on his Walkman.

My brother would listen to Ride the Lightning and ...Justice for All. He had these cloth decorative things, not posters though, the term escapes me right now.
Like a lot of his music, we'd listen to it while playing NES games.

1992. saw "Enter Sandman" on MTV. By that point it was already a year old. I soon after saw the rest of the videos from The Black Album and then one night I saw the video for "One." At this point I had only started listening to music for a few months, absolutely hated it as a kid. So when I saw:
Metallica One ...And Justice For All
I assumed Justice was their new album since all the others were from a self-titled album and most bands' first albums were self-titled.

Summerslam 2003 St anger was used as the theme song. I loved the song and bought the album. Loved the album and just started researching andbuying all the albuns, though I'm still missing load. They are my favorite band by far

I want to say it was Harvester of Sorrow when I was in elementary school. I was maybe 9 or 10, and had a group of friends that would skate on fishtails, haha. Anyway, they listened to Metallica and had their shirts. They would also wear Megadeth shirts, now that I think about it. Anyway, these kids were cool because they would walk home from school. I remember always wanting to walk home. I was never allowed to have that satanic music in my house, so all my exposure came from before school or after school when someone would have one of those portable radios and we would listen to cassette tapes.
Much later in my teens I fell in love with Enter Sandman and Fuel, but between elementary and my late teens, Metallica wasn't a part of my life.

I vaguely remember reading about the bus accident where Cliff died in the morning paper, but not thinking much more of it at the time. Musically, it was someone in school ranting about the Enter Sandman video, piqueing my interest. Been a fan since.

Back in the early 90's. The Box that I got through cable was different from the antenna version. The cable version played lots more rock like Metalica, and other bands.

1992 sometime.
I was 12 I was not really into music at all at that age. Barely listened to the radio. During school camp that year there was a talent show and about half the boys wanted to perform 'Enter Sandman' in some way.
