There were times during Guardians of the Galaxy where I was just in awe at how beautiful the visuals were. I get the feeling Interstellar's taking that award, though, simply because it's the most "highbrow" film in that category. But interstellar is polarizing while Guardians is universally acclaimed. I know the guys who vote for all the technical categories aren't the guys who vote for best picture and such

Interstellar can't win best visuals, they put lens flare in a long empty space shot!!

Oh boy are the Nolanites gonna have a field day with Interstellar not being nominated for Best Picture
Also while I liked it "Imitation Game" shouldn't be in the best picture running.

I am honestly confused as to where this giant American Sniper push came from. How did it beat out Gone Girl and Selma everywhere? Is Clint dying? I think it boils down to "f*** yeah, 'Merica!" I may be slightly biased on that, however, as I think Chris Kyle was a piece of shit who shouldn't be celebrated in any way, shape, or form.

Question: How in the blue hell is the Lego Movie not nominated for Best Animated Film? ?? That stunned me as well, as did not nominating Godzilla for any technicals. That said, I think Boyhood is my pick for Best Picture, with Richard Linklater getting the Director nod. How To Train Your Dragon 2 will likely take Animated Feature Film, although I'm cheering for Tale Of Princess Kaguya.

The How To Train Your Dragon movies have been some of my favorite animated films as of late so I hope it wins.

Jake Gyllenhaal deserved a Best Actor nomination from my view. He changed himself entirely, committed to the role in every sense. As a character study movie he went above and beyond the call, even with an already great script/direction.
I can let them off for not giving it a Best Picture for Nightcrawler (just. Though from what I have heard in some reviews American Sniper sounds/looks incredibly bland and the voters might have unsurprisingly attached to it as always due to them liking "true stories". I haven't seen the film, but this is just an opinion formulated by the reviews I have heard and the footage I have seen) but I don't like the move of missing out on Gyllenhaal for a rightly and justly deserved Best Actor nom.

I haven't seen a single one of the best picture nominees this year, despite wanting to. I just never had time. Seems like a perfect year to do the Oscar marathon at AMC, assuming they don't put it on a goddamn work day like the usually do their special events. I haven't seen either Song of the Sea or The Tale of Princess Kaguya, and I can't honestly say I would have put The Lego Movie over How to Train Your Dragon 2 or Big Hero 6. Probably would have dropped Box Trolls for Lego. Box Trolls was like the only sure fire lock due to it being stop motion. The Academy LOVES them some stop motion animated films.

I'm rooting for Birdman.
If even Keaton could win, I'd be fine with the other results.
I predict Selma to win.

Gyllenhaal should've been nominated, and I know not many watched it, but Tom Hardy should've gotten a nod for Locke.

The lack of Selma nominations is getting some media attention, though I'm fine with it. I didn't think Selma was deserving of the unbelievable hype it garnered. To me, the biggest snub was Gone Girl and David Fincher.

I know the guys who vote for all the technical categories aren't the guys who vote for best picture and such Yeah, Interstellar gets a lot of flack because people feel like it's nothing but a bunch of cliches and takes liberties with science (planets can't habitate around black holes, and the ending...), while others enjoy it as a gripping display of mankind's fragility. Personally, I think the movie absolutely sucked because it was plodding and very confusing (if Dr. Mann was afraid of being alone, why would he sabotage the mission, even if he knew the alternative plan was probable? Well... that was a waste of Matt Damon). But, you can't really say anything bad about Guardians because it was an unorthodox movie that worked. I mean, how else can you prove the success of the movie in which those that took part in it (Chris Platt and Dave Batista in particular) were able to secure more roles (Jurassic World and the latest James Bond film). So, I'm glad Guardians got the nod over Interstellar. Question: How in the blue hell is the Lego Movie not nominated for Best Animated Film? ?? My theory? The live-action ending. Seriously, though, this is one nomination I think we can do without, as there aren't that many animated films released that are "quality", so you inevitably have to pick a clunker by default. I don't know why they couldn't let the Lego Movie get a nomination here in spite of that.

It sucks that Lego Movie didn't get a nomination, it was a lot of fun, but I think its momentum was damaged by bad timing (it premiered very early last year) and the Academy's love for foreign works.
I'll be happy as long as the winner stars a kid and their goofy looking but powerful friend that they fly around on. That was a winning combination last year.

I think The Lego Movie was better than Big Hero 6 and How To Train Your Dragon 2, though I'm happy that "Everything is Awesome!" got a nomination.

When studios bring out movies designed in particular to win awards, they do so around November and December. The Lego Movie debuted right around the time studios bring out their turkeys and gore-fest slashers, and having that far of a time stretch from other films did hurt it.

At least Rio 2 didn't get nominated for best animated film. That would be an argument for getting rid of the category. f*** that movie.
(that said there's an argument for Poisonous Love as best song)

I think the Academy just felt weird nominating a movie called The Lego Movie. Like before it came out everyone thought it was going to be a terrible movie that only exists to promote Lego's. Still it's awesome that The Lonely Island are officially Oscar nominated lol
