This was my entire childhood. I loved going to Woolworth and getting free cans of slime whenever I would buy action figures. Also, there was nothing better than opening up presents on Christmas and having them be action figures, vehicles or playsets (I was lucky enough to get Eternia, and it was glorious).

It wasn't until I had about three of the characters (He-Man, Stratos and Man-At-Arms) that I noticed that they all shared the same body mould! I loved the toys and the cartoon, though; Skeletor was so badass and had no redeeming qualities at all - which is exactly what you want from your cartoon villains. Hell it wasn't until like 10 years after the fact that I realized Stinkor was just a recolor of Merman. My god, you're right. I mean, I knew Moss Man was a green Beast Man, but I never noticed Stinkor

By the way, despite my earlier Christmas Skeletor reference, I know very little about He-Man (I think it was just before my time as I was born in late 1988) but I must admit it does look interesting. From the bits I've seen, the cartoon does look like fun (moreso than I assumed as a kid) and the action figures, despite recycling moulds a lot, show a lot of creativity, especially with some of the gimmicks. They seem to be very high quality too as I've seen several videos of people showing off the gimmicks that still work perfectly decades later.
Plus there always seems to be some interesting stories around the franchise, like voice actresses Erika Scheimer (who came out as a lesbian in 2007) saying that Filmation, the company producing the cartoons, "was one of the gayest places in town" (hard to imagine from the company that made He-Man) or Scare Glow, the "Evil Ghost of Skeletor" which sounds like skeletor died (how does a skeleton die?!) but is actually supposed to mean that it's an evil ghost that works FOR Skeletor (at least that's what I heard).
Also, here's a fun bit of trivia for you guys: He-Man's French name is Musclor, which has got to be the most awesomely ridiculous name for a character since... well, He-Man.

I have a shrine built in the basement with all but the most expensive figures in the toyline. (Missing Twistoid, Sorceress, Multi-bot, Laser He-man, Laser Skeletor and Horde Trooper) I have most of the original vehicles, including the Dinosaurs (missing the Jet Sled and maybe a few others) and have all the playsets minus Eternia (still want to justify buying the 60 dollar She-ra castle as well.)
I have a bunch of the black box re-releases MIB and a bunch of MIB of the 2001 series as well. Not into collecting the Classics series at all (Not the same as having what I once wanted as a tyke)

I gave myself a late Christmas present: Over 1200 pages a childhood nostalgia, and the comics are better than I remembered.

And about a month ago, they announced a 3rd book - A Complete Giide to the Classic Animated Adventures - coming later this summer. www.darkhorse.com/Blog/2210/dark-horse-publish-he-man-and-masters-universe-com

I haven't seen the show in forever, but He-man may have been the first big toy thing I was into as a boy. Jeez it was so great to be a kid back in the 80s: He-Man, Ghostbusters, Nintendo, Ninja Turtles...

I had tons of Transformers, GoBots, and G.I. Joes, but as for He-Man, I just had Hordak and Leech. I mostly used them as giant monsters for my Joes to fight, and later as midcarders in my action figure wrestling fed. I really wanted Roboto, King Hiss, Scareglow, and the He-Man and Skeletor figures with the battle-damage chestplates. If I had some extra cash to blow, I'd get into the classics figures.

Now, WHERE IS THE GUIDE TO THE FIGURES?!!? Transformers, G.I. Joe, Star Wars, and others have had a few such guides, a hundred times over...but I don't think there's ONE book dedicated to the MOTU toys! Mark Bellomo, where are you?

He-Man was probably my first toy obsession, followed quickly by Transformers and... well.. everything else directed towards kids in the 80s.
What I always found weird about myself is, I never seemed to go right for the most obvious guys in the series right away. My first two He-Man characters were Ram-Man and Beast Man. My first Transformer was Thundercracker, my only Thundercats guy was Panthro.

I remember I had a VHS of three of their motion comics.
BTW....Masters Of The Universe figures were part of the Best Christmas I ever had.

Of the three you listed, only He-Man and Man-At-Arms shared the same body mold. Stratos was completely different, and shared a body mold with Beast Man - they had the hairy/furry torso, longer arms and slightly shorter legs. That was one of the more interesting things regarding the line, how much they cannibalized itself for new figures, and how much they cannibalized previous Mattel lines. Both Battle Cat and Zoar (the eagle) were repaints of figures that had been released in Big Jim and Tarzan lines years before. Beast Man was originally going to be a giant gorilla from the Big Jim line painted red before they opted for what we got.

Great story: before they started writing for each new season, the show's writers would have to take a visit to Mattel Toy headquarters to see what was going to be released in the toyline so they could start working it into episodes. The day they were shown Stinkor, they swiftly thought of a million ways they could have the time of their lives with it-but the producers soon put the kaibosh on that.

Skelator in the He-Man Christmas special was awesome. I only wished he would have been at the little Christmas party at the end. I love both He-Man and She-Ra honestly.
