I only just discovered - with the release last week (or this?) of Dark Horse's newest hardcover He-Man book - that there was a series of newspaper comic strips that bridged the original cartoon with the New Adventures of He-Man cartoon. I never knew there was actually a story in place moving the show from one version to the other, I just figured Mattel was insane.....not *so* insane after all. The first episode of the new Adventures bridged the series. Of the future people going back and time and finding He-man and Skeletor. Ah. Whoops. As you can tell, I was not tolerant of vast changes like that back then (probably still are not) so it won't surprised you that I never watched a single full episode of that 2nd series. ;p

When the original line was cancelled, there was actually a succession of four or five different spin-offs that were considered at various points over a couple of years. The first, Powers Of Grayskull, would have been set in Eternia's prehistoric times (and MOTU did set that one up a little before it ended), two different "Son of He-Man" pitches, and the New Adventures, which is the only one that actually got made (though all of them have been incorporated to some degree in the current MOTUC line and mythology). I can't remember if the H.E./M.A.N. military pitch was before the line started or after, but it was another oddball that never saw the light of day.

They got at least (if not exactly) 1 mini-comic right at the end of the original MOTC line. And Laser Light Skeletor -- damn, excellent catch. That really does look like the start of a progression away from his old look & toward what'd be his New Adventures look. Much moreso than Laser Power He-Man, too, which still clung to the classic look despite the outfit starting to look much more modern.

If they did a toyline based on the movie, I would buy every single one of em. At least give us Langella Skeletor, Both Normal & God SkeletorDarkseid. Fixed.

I remember thinking that the new Adventures line/show was supposed to be based on the movie. I remember seeing a commercial for the show on TV and it had He-Man in a ticker tape parade on Earth? I thought it looked terrible. Now I look at the figures and I'd say all of them with the exception of the various He-Mans look decent.

Super 7 had a big day at New York Toy Fare yesterday, announcing/revealing a whole slew of new He-Man/MOTU figures. Wave 1 of their regular MOTUC line, picking up where Mattel left off (and announced early, last month) includes Hawke (Stratos' wife or sister, depending on continuity), Quakke from the New Adventures era, Lodar from the original mini-comics and Fang-Or, a Snake Man created for the MOTUC mini-comics a couple of years ago: In their "Filmation accurate" line, they announced Hordak (one-upping Mattel's horrible attempt at this version a couple of years back, which led to a lot of fan backlash), Man-At-Arms, Triklops and Teela (also replacing a Mattel misfire): There's going to be two convention-exclusive 3-packs, one featuring old-school variants of Stratos, Trap-Jaw (both how they originally appeared in the mini-comics) and Prince Adam (kinda sorta how he first appeared in the original DC comic): The second 3-pack will be a bit of a "huh-what" for most fans, as it's three characters that were originally planned for the 80s He-Man line before it was cancelled, utilizing parts from other figures. These would be Hor-Roar (of the Snake Men), Hot-Shot (the first "Latino" MOTU figure) and Lord Gr'Asp (also of the Snake Men): Not content with the MOTUC line of modern figures, Super 7 is also reviving the original line as well, complete with squat legs and such, for "Filmation style" figures of Hordak, She-Ra, Skeletor and He-Man: Not shown, but they're also finally releasing He-Ro and Eldor in old-school form, as they were intended back in '88. There's also another wave of the "Kenner-style" figures coming, with Kobra Khan, Teela, and others, and a new wave of M.U.S.C.L.E. figures of the MOTU characters. All in all, a fairly nice day of reveals. The MOTUC figures are almost all variants or "kitbashes" but then again, half of the original figures were variants and kitbashes of each other.

Anyone reading He-Man vs. Thundercats by DC? If not, get to it! It's tons of fun.

I passed on them because I really can't afford to start collecting yet another line and they looked a bit cheap-ish to me in ways. If you did, how do they hold up in person?

I found this thing in a $2.00 bin in a thrift store. I liked that it looked like a MOTU item - plus it had the fold into a rock mechanism like the Rock Warriors in MOTU. Turns out it is from a failed toyline called "Rocks, Bugs and Things" from 1985.

The RB&T line has made something of a comeback; a company call Toyfinity has started producing the Mordles (the little guy in that pic) in various new sizes and such.

Picked this guy up from one of the local shops today. They actually had 2 of them. This was the cheaper of the 2 but still paid a fortune for it. They had a King Randor too but I didn't want to go any crazies that I already did with this.

He-Man toys must have been cheaper than Transformers but a little bit more than GI Joes. I remember I had tons of Joes, lots of He-Men and very few Transformers. From what I remember. And this is the prices in the deep south. GI Joe=2 or 3 bucks a figure. Masters of the Universe-5 bucks a figure. Transformers-Besides the little ones like Bumblebee, they were at least 10 bucks each. Even the little ones like Bumblebee were 5 or 7 bucks.

Snagged this guy at C2E2 this weekend. He may look like a simple repaint, but the artist actually removed all the original joints and replaced them with magnets. This made for a unique figure and I couldn't pass him up for 20 bucks.

Yup, he had a whole collection of Remcos and He man figures he had refurbished. He wanted 40-70 dollars for most of them. A few hours into the convention, I think I was the only one who bought one since I snagged the cheapo.
