The second race of the Supercross season was rather dull, IMO. Ryan Dungey, the defending series champ, dominated the main event to win and take the points lead. Last week's winner, Jason Anderson, thought he had third-place locked up, but he was penalized for jumping in an area of a downed rider which caused a red flag. This dropped Anderson to fifth, making the podium Dungey, Chad Reed and Cole Seely. Dungey now has a 6-point advantage over Anderson in the standings, with Seely third, just 1 point behind Anderson. Round 3 takes the series back to Anaheim for the second time. I love how they use the dimensions of Angel Stadium to their advantage, particularly the first and third base lines.

NASCAR.comAs if the new season could not get weirder, we now have the Caution Clock in the NCWTS.

So considering pretty much every driver I originally rooted for in NASCAR are retired now, I think it's allowed if I choose Chase Elliott as my new favorite driver, no matter how bandwagon-y that may come off. My excuse is that I've been watching long enough to remember Bill carrying him around during the Winston Select circa 1997, which... makes me feel a little old, even though I'm not THAT much older than he is. Haven't decided what I think of the paint scheme yet though. It's a little different from what they've historically done for the Napa sponsorship, and it's classy in a Martini stripes sort of way, but I think I'll have to see it on track to judge. I don't see that as bandwagon-y. That would be if you rooted for Johnson just because he won all the time. I liked Chase before he won the Nationwide Championship. Down to earth, humble, and a lot like his father, Awesome Bill from Dawsonville. Meet Awesome Chase from the Same Damn Place!

Meet Awesome Chase from the Same Damn Place! That's a BADASS nickname, though they probably won't be encouraged to say damn on the race broadcasts if they can help it, and "Same Darn Place" is missing something. Also, it says an awful lot about the terrible art direction that Batman vs. Superman is taking when even the special edition paint schemes are so unbelievably dull and dreary:

Also, let me just say, the Caution Clock is one of the dumbest ideas I think I've heard for ostensibly a professional motor sports series.
Brian France is getting as bad as Vince McMahon in terms of turning into an echo chamber that likes his own ideas and seems completely oblivious to the fact that the past ten years have been pretty much filled with people complaining about increasingly manufactured racing, and two, NOBODY LIKES THE GODDAMN CHASE, which naturally is the cue to introduce it to all top three series.

So wait. A mandatory caution every 20 minutes? What in the f***?

Like I have said many times before, just run a season and award points to based on where each racer finishes the race. Sometimes you will have blowouts, but sometimes it might organically lead up to a end of the season nail biter.
With the way NASCAR keeps doing these gimmicks, in about 5-10 years, there will be a mandatory pit stop with 50 laps to go. All the drivers will be taken to the midfield, shuffled around, blindfolded, spun around 10 times and be forced to stumble to a car. What ever car the driver ends up with is the car they finish the race with.

Thing is... I don't recall NASCAR ever really being prone to blowouts, at least not in the sense that the championship was decided before the final race.
The whole Chase thing was implemented because a guy won the title with one race to go while winning only one race for the season... But now we're at the point where a guy can miss a third of the season and still be champion, like Kyle Busch did.

A little off topic here, but is anybody else psyched for the 24 Hours of Daytona next weekend? A large collection of the best in the world racing around an iconic track in badass sports cars. It doesnt get any better than that!

Indeed. The Rolex 24 has gotten back to what it should be, which is the answer to Le Mans. During the dueling series of Grand Am and ALMS, much like the latter part of the CART/IRL mess of yesteryear, no one series could say they were TRULY up to par with their contemporaries overseas, since the competition and technology were watered down.

It's amazing how the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is willing to forsake many traditions about their most coveted race, the Indy 500, such as adding corporate sponsorship to the title, but the one thing that, in my opinions, has hurt the event the most, which is refusing to air the race live in the Indianapolis market, is the one thing they are never willing to adjust.
People here may say it should be on the level of the Olympics and the World Cup and the Super Bowl, but it ain't. Outside of my city, who even bothers mentioning IndyCar results on the news or in papers?
If they want people to care, they should look at the local level and ask "what can we do to make things better?" Besides, they should air the race twice in Indy; live and an encore, because who is actually interested in watching repeats of Revenge and Shark Tank? But, alas, WRTV is as antiquated as the IMS with this tradition.

But, alas, WRTV is as antiquated as the IMS with this tradition. Honestly, for me, the sponsorship thing only bothers me for this year. I'm shocked IMS held out this long considering how major sporting events are brought to you by one thing or another now-a-days. However, with this being the 100th running, I agree that doing it this particular year just doesn't feel right. With that said though, my local Indy race(which can be argued is the second most iconic on the schedule) is the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. It's been sponsored by Toyota almost as long as the race has been running. So, again, the sponsorship thing doesn't really bother me in the long run. However, they really should have just waited until next year. Also, I don't understand why they blackout the race locally in Indy. I would be pissed if I couldn't go the the Grand Prix in Long Beach AND couldn't watch it on TV live.

The Indy 500 and The Brickyard 400 should never have added a corporate name, it just feels so wrong.

You guys are full of it. Nobody goes to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for racing. It's all about concerts on Miller Lite Carb Day, and to learn how I Am Indy.
