Honestly, I feel like the next 'golden age' for racing right now is going to be sports cars and endurance racing, provided that the new FIA P2 regs don't mess things up too much.
At the same time, the GT class is astounding in both the WEC and IMSA, and it does sound like IMSA's been playing their cards right in terms of coercing teams dissatisfied by the 2017 P2 regulations to come over to the US (even though I think "Daytona Prototype International" is an extraordinarily dumb name).
Even though I know the teams and drivers and a lot of the fans obviously don't want to think this way, there's some times I still seriously feel like the powers that be in Indycar and the speedway are pretty much aiming to close up shop once they get the 100th running out of the way.
Granted, considering how some of the Indy fans react to any sense of change and God forbid, new safety requirements...

The 500 I feel will still exist in some capacity, whether the whole series does or not I'm not too sure. I do agree though that we'll be seeing a changing of the guard in the next could of years in the series, be it drivers or team bosses. I can see Roger Penske possibly passing the day to day running of the team to Cendric and Kanaan and Helio both retiring in the next two years.

Ryan Dungey dominated Anaheim 2 to make it back-to-back wins for the defending champ. Chad Reed placed second and Ken Roczen rounded out the podium. Dungey now holds a 13-point lead over Reed in the standings, and Jason Anderson is 2 behind Reed. This week the tour goes north to the Bay Area where Oakland's O.co Coliseum hosts round 4 of the championship. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMAP!

Spent some time this morning watching Rolex 24 qualifying from the other day. Fascinating to watch everyone struggle in the rain, especially how twitchy the prototypes wound up getting, and cool to see Mikhail Aleshin win the prototype pole. The BR01 is a mean looking machine, it's my underdog vote for tomorrow if its reliability holds up.
Also, watching that video and especially towards the end when the rain really starts falling on the prototypes, you can pretty much immediately see why racing in rain on ovals is a bad idea. And that's with the high banking draining most of the water; if it was a flatter oval, it'd be even more treacherous than the road course sections already were.

Even though it's been a story for a couple of days, Formula 1 themselves have confirmed that Pastor Maldonado is out of his seat at Renault. Unless he picks up a Manor seat, then that's a lot of relieved drivers and marshals in this coming season.

That was an astoundingly good Rolex 24, and very happy with both the Corvettes being able to race to the line after 24 hours and the Ligier winning.
Also, just when you think you've seen it all in terms of moronic complaints, I'm seeing Indycar fans complain that the sidepods on the new Honda aerokit are too small and 'now nobody will want to sponsor them because nobody will be able to read the logos'.

Apparently Tony Stewart injured his back Sunday in an non-racing incident. When it rains it pours for Poor Smoke.

I bet Alex Bowman who is going to run Xfinity for JR motorsports may be called upon.

I think it's too late in the game to do much moving around for Bowyer. Tony has just had the most atrocious luck these past few years.

On the same token, the fact that Tony has openly stated that he still plans to race full time in dirt racing after his "retirement" already tells what he thought of NASCAR at this point and that it's gone to complete hell abomination.

If we remember a couple of months ago there was a story that spread that Television Producer Mark Burnett was looking into developing a drama series based around the world of Nascar. Well I decided to create my own intro idea for the show, in the style of another drama series which should be instantly recognizable.
I do want to note however this project began prior to Tony Stewart's injury and it was too late to make modifications, but I hope you can enjoy it and it is a bit of fun.

He actually did in his first year as owner-driver, and I forgot about that, but after 2013, it's been nothing but bad luck for him. I think he only had 2 top 10 finishes all of last season.

Here's a prediction; Stewart will retire mid way through this season. Ever since he became an owner, it's been nothing but hell for him. Didn't he win the title as an owner driver? technically, yes. but he only owns half the team, Gene Haas owns half of it too, and when Tony was driving, Haas actually took most of the ownership side of things himself. When Tony does retire as a NASCAR driver that will free him up.
