The real question is, how will the Squirrel Girl movie do? It's gonna happen, just give it time.

Two points about the Guardians of the Galaxy comparisons:
1. Yes, I know that YOU knew that GotG was going to be a gigantic hit, but it was seen as a massive risk on Marvel's part. The fact that it made that much money came out of nowhere. One day, a Marvel film will underperform at the box office and the reason it wasn't GotG was...
2. GotG was a really great movie. Everyone involved clearly through everything they had into it and it shows. Ant-Man, on the other hand, has been perhaps their most troubled production with the Edgar Wright fiasco. Pretty sure I read something about them doing some substantial reshooting as well. It could pull a similar surprise but I'd put my money on it replacing The Incredible Hulk as the most forgettable Marvel film.

I enjoyed the trailer for Ant-man so I think will do ok, nothing amazing.
My main marvel concern is Ms.Marvel I'm not really convinced by her comic book character never mind a film version. This one is the big risk IMO.

No it won't be. Ant-Man isn't that goofy sounding anyway. Besides, as others pointed out Guardians of the Galaxy worked with a raccoon and a tree man. If the story is good enough, it should do fine.

This one is the big risk IMO. It's Captain Marvel, not Ms. Marvel. Marvel's legally barred from making a Ms. Marvel movie. Any movie featuring Kamala Khan as the lead character would be so awesome that nobody would ever want to see another movie again, effectively bankrupting the industry.

The two movies I am curious to see are Dr. Strange and Black Panther.
With the MCU basically hand-waving that all magic is merely advanced science, Dr. Strange explicitly works on nothing but magic, and Black Panther, if only to see how they handle Wakanda.

Which brings me to a third point about Ant-Man/ Guardians comparisons: Guardians of the Galaxy literally looked like nothing else in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We all joke about how the movie with the sentient tree and the talking raccoon was a big hit but let's not forget why it was a big hit. Guardians was our true first dive into Cosmic Marvel. It was easily the most visually stunning movie out of the two phases, taking us into different planets, introducing us to the Kree and the Nova Corps, as well as being the first movie where Thanos and the Infinity Stones take center stage. Guardians biggest strength is that it takes place in a world all it's own. It had no real parallels in the MCU to be held against. Ant-Man doesn't have that advantage; it takes place in the same world as Iron Man and Captain America, with a suit nowhere near as cool looking as the former and enemies nowhere near as intimidating as the latter. It's the same reason why Age of Ultron seems less impressive, because it's being held to the same standards as the first Avengers and Winter Soldier, both of which had better villains and did a better job of putting the protagonists in peril.

Are you really latching onto something so old as a definitive version? What are you, an Editor for DC?

I dunno, the micro world can be as different of a setting as space if handled well and they spend enough time there on his scale.

Eventually, the superhero bubble will burst. After Guardians of the Galaxy, I've given up on trying to predict when that will be.
