I know that the Marvel name is basically a license to print money nowadays, but i cant see Ant-Man being that big of a hit. The trailer looked good, but if you really think about it, to a non-comic fan, the name sounds like a syfy channel original movie, and he isnt even that well-known to the casual comic fans. You could make the same argument about Guardians of the Galaxy, but that had a really interesting trailer (moreso than Ant-Man's), and im sure people were wondering what was the deal with Rocket. This on the other hand, would have been better to make direct-to-video.

I think it'll do fine. (Not excited at all about it and probably making it the first Marvel I skip in theaters honestly)
Marvel has all the momentum in the world. When the train of money stops it'll happen at the top with one of the Avengers movies and not with the middle ground filler movies.

They have had plenty of flops. The Fantastic Four series wasn't great. Daredevil was terrible.

I am sure that it will do well. It probably won't make the same amount of bank like The Avengers movies did, nor do I think it could make the same amount like the Iron Man films and Captain America films, among others.
I still plan to see it, though.

I've not been terribly impressed with the trailers so far, so I know I will probably wait for the VOD/BluRay release, but I expect it to make at least $350 million.

They have had plenty of flops. The Fantastic Four series wasn't great. Daredevil was terrible. Marvel studios had nothing to do with either and they weren't flops either. 44 had made enough to warrant a sequel and DD was far from terrible. Fox even tried to do an Affleck starring sequel. Elektra was the flop, but again that was fox not marvel studios. And to the op; the same was said about iron man way back when. Ant man will meet or exceed expectations.

People were saying this about Guardians of the Galaxy last year and look how that turned out.
Ant-Man at least has some name recognition by long-time comic fans and he was a major character in the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon a few years ago (haven't really kept up with Avengers Assemble but I would imagine he's in that one a lot). That's more than can be said for Guardians who were obscure characters known only by die-hard Marvel fans.
I think it'll do well. I don't think it'll make as much money as GOTG did but it'll certainly do well. The announcement of Paul Rudd appearing in Civil War will almost certainly give it a boost also.

I wouldn't say "Flop" but I do see it doing closer to First Avenger/Thor numbers than Winter Soldier/Guardians of the Galaxy.

People said the EXACT same thing about Guardians and it was a great film that even non-comic fans loved. Ant-Man might not be well known in the general public, but the character has a long history in Marvel. He's one of the founding members of The Avengers.

I'm a fan of Paul Rudd, but I think I'll wait to rent it on Blu-Ray.

I think the combined names of Marvel and Paul Rudd will do fine for them.
Black Panther on the other hand, may struggle.
And one day, this bubble is going to burst. And that's going to suck.

It'll probably be fine. It won't do as well as some of the bigger films in the series, but nor will it be as expensive to make.

If it does bad Marvel and the fans will just blame Edgar Wright for f***ing the movie up.

I doubt it flops unless it's just a bad movie. Guardians of the Galaxy was obscure as hell and that movie did extremely well.
