Alexis Denisoff in Angel - That's a years long performance where Wes goes from pathetic wimp, to a badass dark hero. Stephanie Romanov in Angel I've said many a time, Wesley's evolution from one-note cowardly comic relief to a complex, tortured hero is my favourite character arc in any TV show, and Alexis Denisof really knocked it out of the park when it came to making it believable. What bums me out is his career stagnated somewhat afterwards. Granted, he went back into theatre for a while, and can at least list Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy on his resume (brief as his role was), but the dude should've at least had his own series.

Brooklyn Nine Nine wouldn't be half the show it is if not for the perfect comedic chemistry between Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher.

DiCaprio in Django Unchained. The majority of his work prior to that was absolutely average to me, but QT really made him up his game so hard that he carried it over to WoWS. But he crushed the f*** outta Calvin Candie. In a VERY rare case of Leo's performance stealing the show. Wasn't a huge fan of him in Django, lots of overacting, which worked, but nothing too amazing. Samuel L Jackson however, that was possibly the best work he'd done. I loved Leo's performance in Django. But it was good to see Samuel L. Jackson play something different besides Samuel L. Jackson.

He seemed more SLJ in that film than, say, the Star Wars prequels... y'know, the films that managed to somehow ruin Samuel Jackson's involvement in it (minus the Jango fight).

I don't know, does it matter? Maybe it was Syfo Dias? Palpatine: "Kill some little children first." Anakin: "Sure, whatever."

Samuel L Jackson however, that was possibly the best work he'd done. When Sam Jack didn't win the Oscar for Pulp Fiction I was bummed because I knew he'd never have a role that good again. Then along comes Django and I got to hoping...not even nominated.

Martin Freeman - He was born to play Bilbo.
Benedict Cumberbatch - Born to play Smaug. Holy shit did he completely make that movie worthwhile.
James Callis - Perfect as Dr. Baltar in Battlestar Galactica. Especially the scenes during the Cylon occupation of New Caprica when they first arrive and he has to surrender and later when the Cylons are forcing him to sign a death warrant.

Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski I think John Goodman deserves a mention here as well. I will also add F. Murray Abraham for his performance in Amadeus, and Willem Dafoe for his in Boondock Saints.

The three main characters in Seven are played to perfection. Morgan Freeman as the jaded veteran who'd lost hope but kept fighting anyway, Brad Pitt as the young hotshot slowly becoming jaded himself, and Kevin Spacey as the killer who sincerely believes what he's doing is right and just.

Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino and Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club both nailed the idea of one overcoming their own prejudices and growing.

I think a more capable actor could have made Baltar's sex appeal more believable. He never seemed more than an obnoxious nebbish heel to me, so it made no sense why everyone wanted to bang him. Then again Baltar was a terrible character with plot armor, so... you do what you can with it.

Another for me is Christian Bale in Out of the Furnace. He pulls you in and your heart wrenches for this guy. A series of bad events just ruin the man's life, and when his brother is murdered it's the last straw. I recommend it to anyone a fan of Christian Bale.
