In 2013, after the Lesnar feud, Punk feuds with Axel. For the most part it is a one sided feud but one thing that bugged me the most was that Punk had no interest in the IC title nor did he even want it. The basically destroys off the IC title in that feud and then Big E eventually gets it afterwards.
The way Punk brushed off the IC title, did that bug anyone else? Especially how only 18 months later Bryan gets it and treats it like gold.

That's the kind of thing that wrecks the belts credibility more than anything, I think... Someone actively feuding with the champion but not even trying for the belt. At least with a lot of these aimless feuds that seem to surround them most of the time, the people involved at least WANT the belt.

Yep that Punk, always looking out for the little guy!

To be fair, the feud was with Heyman. It went beyond titles. He just wanted to get through anyone who was between him and Heyman.
That being said, they should really enforce the 30 day defense rule more.

He didn't want it. He just wanted to get Heyman.

Heyman be damned; if Punk wanted to really make it sting as he feuded with Heyman, wouldn't taking a title off of one of his guys be a very clear and direct way of getting back at him? It doesn't matter what the context is, if you have a champion feuding with someone and their title is just not there for all intents and purposes, you're doing a disservice to the belt and devaluing it.

Same thing happened with Undashing Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. I think Rhodes only defended the title once against Orton and every match that Orton won just happened to not be for the title.

Dean Ambrose's Phantom Reign of the US title is the most egregious case of the title just not f***ing being defended, ever, that I can think of.

Let's blame Punk and not creative. I really love there is an almost non existent middle ground with CM Punk with wrestling fans. He's either a better person than Jesus ever was or worse than Hitler.

I'm pretty sure he's literally the longest reigning US champ in WWE history yet there were several times he outright didn't defend it on PPV. There's a reason it was a joke in the first place, dude.

Is that reason Miz? Cause I'm pretty sure he shattered that record.

I'd say both are true, to an extent. Jesus never beat the Miz and Del Rio in a triple threat match (nor could he have, perro), and Hitler never failed to treat the Intercontinental Championship with proper respect.

What bothers me is how WWE bookers play it like it doesn't matter.
Punk wanted Heyman.

Doesn't this sum up how we all feel about Axel? He's such a non-threat.

This was the same year in which Wade Barrett had the IC title for an eternity, lost it, gained it back a day later, and then went back to doing nothing with it, all while losing to anything and everyone in the process.
The f***ing thing was like a trashbag with a voodoo curse on it. Punk was being a rational family man when he decided not to touch that thing.

The f***ing thing was like a trashbag with a voodoo curse on it. Punk was being a rational family man when he decided not to touch that thing. That has nothing to do with a "curse" and everything to do with booking. By kicking Axel's ass repeatedly and not once showing interest in the title, Punk only exacerbated the problem. It just looks bad when a few years later, pretty much everyone else in the company who held a world title (and a guy who would've beaten Punk for the WWE Title if not for shenanigans) is actively holding or chasing the midcard belts.
