This is because they don't know what to book right? We just go and get another multiman pile up because they don't know what to do besides having a shitload of people fighting over a title.

Probably the new MITB, just with a prize that no one really cares about anymore.

I miss MITB being at Mania.

I'm just confused why on earth if they needed a pointless filler clusterf*** for a midcard belt they didn't use the US title.

It'd do better for him than winning that likely preshow-bound match where the crowd will just be sitting on their hands the entire time.

They're fun matches, and an easy way to get certain guys onto these cards.
I was thrilled when I learned I would get to see one live last year.

At this point Mania is more about getting any many people as possible on the card for a big payday, and a multi-man clusterf*** for a title gives the appearance of prestige and importance more than a battle royal for a gold spray-painted papier-mâché sculpture of Andre.

I was hoping they'd throw a curve ball and do a championship scramble

Yeah, getting as many guys on for that Mania paycheck is the main reason for the multi-man matches. And I'm cool with it as long as I get to see Heath and Zack.

Either Kevin Owens is incredibly stupid kayfabe, or he is a friggin mastermind Either he lucked into 2 wins in a row against AJ Styles using Y2J's interference (just him yelling), or he expected the Y2J distraction and picked his spot. Either he stupidly couldn't leave the arena after snuffing out AJ, or he meant to stick around and instigate Miz/Zigg/Zayn to ultimately goad them into a ladder match knowing he would need at least 7 participants. Either he said KO-Mania to the Daughter of WrestleMania off-handedly, or intentionally manipulated Steph into getting himself a MitB-esque ladder match coupled with the earlier manipulation (and again, picking his spot when she's distracted with HHH/Reigns) when dubious abusing her power to make matches with 3 random (but deserving midcard) Superstars.
I kinda like how you can go either way with this

Vince: "DAMMIT, THESE PEOPLE WANT ZIGGLER VS RYDER, OWENS VS SKINNY SETH ROGAN FOR THE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE, AND STARDUST TO GET A PUSH?"
Creative: "Yeah, it looks like it. Owens and Zayn have history already, so we could-"
Vince: "JUST PUT THEM ALL IN A LADDER MATCH OR SOMETHING! AND ADD SIN CARA TO DO SOME FLIPPY SHIT, DAMMIT! I'VE GOTTA HELP PAUL MAKE ROMAN LOOK STRONG!"

I hate this match more than I hate the main event.
I have never been less interested in a Kevin Owens match.
I don't even like Zayn that much but a year long feud in two different shows culminating at Mania in a twenty minute classic is the kind of thing that is all too rare in WWE these days.

While I would have preferred Owens/Zayn one-on-one, I'm not gonna look the metaphorical gift horse in the mouth in this scenario and reject what I'm getting here. Rarely are ladder matches actively bad, and there's an interesting mix of talents, none of whom are unable to hold their own in a match.

The problem seems to be that not enough of the casuals know who Sami is enough to care about the feud. A year-long build doesn't count if 11 months of it is on a show most of the audience hasn't been watching. Granted, Sami will be over like crazy with the smark-heavy Mania crowd, but Vince isn't exactly shy about jumping to conclusions about guys, and Sami hasn't set the world on fire on the main roster yet.

While I prefer the current matchup, I put the blame on WWE for having Sami dick around in NXT for no good reason when he could've just as easily made his return from injury straight to the Main Roster and had more time to build for a one on one match with Owens.

Oh definitely. The night after the Rumble he should've been in Owens' face and raising hell. NXT coped fine for months without him.

It would be nice if they booked Owens in a proper fued for the if belt yeah but a multi man ladder match with Owens, Sami, Ziggler, stardust and sin cara is gonna be awesome.
