This guy... Sorry, I don't get the hype. What was the thought process behind coming into the appreciation thread, then?

Let's cut back on attacking people for either having opinions against the popular view or saying they'll be attacked for having opinions against the popular view.
I'd like to think most of us are above that sort of thing here.
Also, I know appreciation threads aren't exactly a decisive topic here but it's pretty easy to make a different thread instead of going to one titled "Appreciation thread" and attempting to derail it.
Again, most of us are better than that.

I liked the match, some amazing moments and it's my first time seeing Nakamura and I'm excited to see what lies in store for him.
But..
I hated the 10 minute exchange of forearm shots to the head. In wrestling you always have to suspend belief. That's a given. But the great wrestling matches are where you don't get taken out of it, and that did it for me. It looked so phoney and dumb.

Just imagine how a match between Nakamura and Joe would be. Not sure if either of them would survive. Shut up and... Um, something about money.

I was up at 5AM for work yesterday, and did a full shift. Got home around 4, and realized that Takeover didn't start until 10 EST. As soon as that Zayn/Nakamura match started, I could feel myself getting drowsy, so I F***ING CHOKED MYSELF to stay awake and finish watching the match. That's how good that match was live.

Not getting the hype for either one of these guys but the match was pretty good nonetheless.
Hoping to get won over in the coming weeks.

Never seen him work before, only heard the hype. I get it now. Agreed. It's like he's made of liquid. Literally never seen a talent like him.

This is the tag team/feud I never knew I wanted until yesterday. That's alright, I'll team with Renee

That was a great match but as many people in this thread said, that would barely be in the top 10 matches for him. The most interesting thing is that at least for now they are letting Nakamura be himself, what happens in the next few months will be really interesting.

Nakamura really makes me think of Gary Oldman for some reason. I think it's the vaguely Fifth Element undercut.

This is the tag team/feud I never knew I wanted until yesterday. With Renee posing like that it reminds me of one of those old school promo pics. Nakamura and Ambrose with Renee as manager? I wouldn't complain.

This guy... Sorry, I don't get the hype. He's eccentric to the point of kind of annoying. In ring he's pretty good, but I've seen wrestlers who use strikes and you can only make them look so good. If he showed up on the main roster, you'd have the Krusty "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT" look on 7/10 of your audience. Sure it was one match and his first impression was one of it wouldn't kill me if I never saw him wrestle again. Zayn was absolutely fantastic and that guy has continued to win me over to the point where he's one of my favorite wrestlers. Sorry if this offends you for having a different opinion, I'm not somebody that watches any Indy or Japanese wrestling to give you some background on the basis of my opinion. Except that this is how wrestling should work. If people aren't given a reason to care, they won't. On the other hand, you debut someone like him (or like Styles) in front of a crowd that knows who he is, and the casuals catch on. The crowd reactions gets the curiosity, the match itself then hooks them onto the talent, and from then on it's different.

My first time seeing the guy, and that was a hell of a match.
I try and keep very open minded about new talent, especially when the hype is through the roof.
My first thought, as he was making his entrance was "I don't know if he'll be any good, but this guy is already more interesting than 99% of the roster".
My final thought after the match was "that was awesome. But what the hell is he going to do on the main roster, cos he can't do that every week"
I'm looking forward to where he goes from here.

Like Owens before him, Nakamura made me a fan within minutes. Nakamura and Owens both have that particular quality - that they are so completely into their personas that it's impossible to look away from them. They both feel completely genuine even while acting over-the-top.

The best praise I can give that match is that I tuned into NXT just to see that match, and I'm one of those fans who likes wrestling for everything but the wrestling (a bit of an oversimplification but I do ff the vast majority of matches until the end), and I watched every minute of that match. It was legitimately great.

I will say that I'm glad I finally got to see Nakamura at work, because I think he's just turned a lightbulb on in my head.
A lifetime ago, an old identity ago... THAT was what I was looking for all that time.
And on rare occasions, when I still drag that self out... now I know what I should have been doing with it all along.
