Now I see why they didn't use Discord for the role of person that Twilight think would be a bad influence on Starlight, because the episode would have gone so differently. First of all Discord has friends like Fluttershy and The Smooze, so that part of the plot line wouldn't fit, not to mention we haven't seen Trixie since season 3 not counting the comics, so there is a edge of mystery has she really changed, we know what Discord is all about, and we know what would have happened, he would have showed up at Twilight's party and ruined, because he is a jerk to Twilight, he loves pushing her buttons. Maybe that is why Starlight and Fluttershy interact at all in this find a friend montage.

I like the relationship that Twilight and Starlight has here, Twilight is over protective like an older sister or a mother, the way I think of it, is an older sister whose parents are dead and Twilight has all the responsibility of being Starlight's guardian. That is how it felt like to me.

And if this was told from Trixie's prospective, this would have been like those old school teen movies like She's All That or Can't Buy Me Love, a character wants to use another character for their own selfish motives, but ends up caring for the other character along the way.

Trixie was on point in this episode, nice that she and Starlight can be friends, I wonder how is the shipping react to this one, will it be anything like after Gravity Falls "Northwest Manson Noir" or Steven Universe "Too Far", perhaps something in between. I can see it already.

This wasn't as bad as I feared it would be, I like Starlight rebel attitude, she has not going to let Twilight walk all over her like in the season premiere, and she separates herself form being a Sunset Shimmer clone.

But I am still waiting for Starlight and Discord to interact. I haven't forgotten.

That was a pretty great episode. It's always nice to see THE GREAT AND POWERFUL TRIXIE (*fanfare*), and she seems to have... mostly changed, even if she's still somewhat spiteful. Plus, it was funny, and... dammit, I like Starlight.

FINALLY got the itunes gauntlet of fire, although it's twice the size as the ones i usually get, and watched it
EXCELLENT WILL SCORE TOMORROW

and seen todays marvelously hilarious episode, so many laugh out loud facials, but i may have to slap the writers for doing that to flutters THAT WAS A GREAT PICNIC YOU JERKS!!! and almost a remake of the very first episode too, nice touch, and glimms reaching twilight levels of exasperation

-excellent callbacks and continuity regarding both Trixie and Starlight
-Proof that neither may be fully redeemed and maybe Trixie WAS trying, I still can't tell
-Twilight takes her station very seriously, maybe TOO seriously.

Bad:

-Twilight's actions are extremely against character and make no sense when it comes to how she treats either Starlight or Trixie. Twilight was acting like Starlight and Trixie were going to team up to take over Equestria or something.
-The graphic comparing how Twilight treats Starlight and Trixie is very telling.
-Why didn't Celestia call Twilight out on her behavior at the dinner? AT ALL? You could see in Tia's face that she knew something was up and really should have put her hoof down to get Twilight back on track with this.
-When Twilight confronts them both, the whole thing degenerates into chick drama
