WOW. I already really enjoyed The Wolverine, and this looks like it's going to blow it out of the water. James Mangold has really salvaged the otherwise crummy job Fox has done with Wolverine. Also, really excited for X-23.

Plot details

Set in 2024, Logan and Professor Charles Xavier must cope with the loss of the X-Men at the hands of a corporation led by Nathaniel Essex. With Logan's healing abilities slowly fading and Xavier's Alzheimer's hampering his memory, Logan must defeat Essex with the help of a young girl named Laura Kinney, a female clone of Wolverine.

So takes place after Apocalypse

Okay, so the future section of DOFP takes place in 2023, with Logan, Xavier and company spending the best part of ten years on the run from the Sentinels wiping out mutants wholesale, and both Logan and Xavier are in solid health.

In the alternate future, also 2023, where the Sentinels never happened and everybody survived Last Stand, Logan's healing powers are failing and Xavier's mind is being destroyed by Alzheimers.

That bugs me almost as much as the rapid ageing.

So Logan was able to help save the future world by altering the past, preventing the X-Men from getting killed in the process, only for the X-Men to get killed a year later than in the former timeline.

So...wow. I've been waiting for days for the first Red Dead trailer, for a game I've been waiting for for years. And Logan comes in and steals every ounce of thunder.

I showed it to a few people at work, and I'm really fascinated by the grounded non superhero vibe. It almost looks like it could be a thriller about Mexican drug smuggling.

So basically every villain destroys the world until amazingly the x-men save the day...every time.


I tell you what has me curious... this is Jackman's last time as Wolverine. So what happens in the next X-men movie? New Wolverine? No Wolverine? or does X-23 take over? Singer has been on record about the next x-film taking place in the 90s... Wolverine was a big part of that team.

My thinking is they may bring in Deadpool before replacing Wolverine. Although I think it would be cool to bring in teenage X-23 into the X-Men. Although that's going to require some serious time jumping to make it work.

Doesn't necessarily have to be part of any of the other timelines. This one could have diverged at any number of points in time after the first movie.

Great trailer. I'm amazed it seems so far removed from every other kind of super hero movie we've seen over the last few years. This looks to be a great character study of Logan and Xavier.

This over-reliance on time travel and timelines pisses me off but I realize that it's the most X-men thing in a series of X-men movies that don't actually seem to be about the X-men. That said an X-men movie without Mystique sounds really fun right about now.

Not trying blow this out of proportion or anything, but this of one of the biggest payoffs that we could get. Fan service? Sure. It could make up for not having the true X-Men in the MCU.

Here's the trailer breakdown from director James Mangold. Seem to be playing with the idea of what if Logan still heals quickly but as he's aged his body is left with scars instead of healing without a scratch like he used to. Also doesn't confirm or deny the little girl is Laura/X-23 (though it's kinda obvious it is).

When asked about the time the film takes place in, all Mangold would say was “We are in the future, we have passed the point of the epilogue of Days Of Future Past".

Also won't confirm or deny that Boyd Holbrook is mutant hating cyborg Donald Pierce.
