Saw it today... {Spoiler}So can I just call it Asgardians of the Galaxy? Because the tone of it was far closer to that than either of the other Thor movies. Way more jokey and silly, and while they did have the moments of gravitas that tend to come from the Thor movies and their mythological underpinnings, it seems more like they had trouble balancing it out. I mean, don't get me wrong, I laughed a lot and enjoyed the movie, but given that it's about the literal destruction of Asgard and included the deaths of several characters that had been in the previous movies, it's odd how the tone shifted so drastically between Sakaar and Asgard and to have characters making random quips in what's supposed to be an emotional scene.
I wish Skurge was in the previous Thor movies, because Skurge's last laugh is my legit favorite comic book scene ever, and his arc was just rushed a lot with how frenetically paced the movie was.

My criticism of Ragnarok extends to the trilogy as a whole. That is, why have Idris Elba on staff and so criminally underuse him?

2nd viewing today. something i noticed. at the end of Age Of Ultron, Fury said that the Hulk and Quinjet had crashed in the South Pacific. now he's been on Sakaar. what gives? he was in the air when he got sucked into the "collasping neutron star inside an Einstein-Rosen Bridge." did any body ever hear an explantion? and don't say a wizard did it! Because Fury is a lying asshat who does things to serve his interest

ESPECIALLY if Fury was doing these activities under the radar, it wouldn't exactly look good to have a random Quinjet that any government would have seen.

Saw it again last night with a friend who'd never seen an MCU movie but was interested when she heard Watiti directed. She really enjoyed it, saying it was far better than she expected it would be going in. 7:30 show on a Saturday night, only a couple seats empty.
Biggest response this time came for all of Loki's initial reactions to the Hulk.

I loved the entire bit of Thor's fight with Hulk, and Loki's response to it.

Because Fury is a lying asshat who does things to serve his interest The easy explanation is that isn't what Fury said. The implication was there, but he only said it might be the Quinjet, but with the Stark tech they couldn't track it.

Saw it in a double feature with Justice Leauge. I might have to see this one again. Taika Waititi has made some of my favorite movies over the past few years. One thing he's done very well over the course of his career is create movies that are gut-bustingly hilarious, but also have a ton of humanity. I'm not sure that always translated very well here. Especially near the end.
It was good but, I'm going to have to give it a second viewing to get a better feel for it. Korg was great, though. Waititi pretty much took a character from Hunt for the Wilderpeople or What We Do in the Shadows and made him a CGI superhero movie character. Awesome.

Saw it tonight; on the whole pretty good, but it did feel like it was a bit too all-over-the-place. I would've liked for it to spend more time on Jeff Goldblum's world, thought that was a more interesting setting and story. I honestly didn't see the first two Thor films, but I felt like the story being told on Asgaard would fit a high fantasy story better, but it couldn't fully commit to being that; the story on the other world felt like it could be a more fun, "space outlaw" style movie, but it couldn't fully commit to that.
Also, while I know that one of Marvel's big strengths has been to make movies where you could enjoy them without needing to see every other movie in the series, it kind of is starting to feel like we're nearing the point where it's tougher to get everything out of each movie without watching more of the other ones.
Still, the humor was done well when it was used, I enjoy Thor and Loki's interactions, Blanchett scarfing down scenery and Jeff Goldblum in general are always fun. But, yeah: a story of Ragnarok, but you never really feel the weight of an apocalypse doing down, a lot of off the cuff and quick deaths for characters that had been in the series, and it would've been nice for the story to stay more in one place and commit a bit more to an overall tone and style.

Finally got around to seeing this.
This movie was amazing.
My father who hasn't seen the first Thor but did see the second one loved it as well.

Yeah, we're like 20 movies in now so the balancing act is becoming difficult. Most of them hold up on their own, but you absolutely get more out of most of them if you've seen the rest. Like, if you haven't seen Avengers 2 you'd have no idea why Thor keeps saying those words to Banner about the Sun
