f***ing Kanu, seven years I've watched him and he's never done anything like that before.

My family are apparently invoking our Welsh heritage after tonight's result. According to my dad at least!

SENSATIONAL PERFORMANCE FROM WALES YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES arguably their GREATEST EVER performance by a welsh team the second goal was phenominal, a wonderful cruyff turn that left the defense dead in the box, and a brilliant headed third! fellini will be feeling sick for missing that header too they'll miss ramsey though but i now WANT TO BEAT PORTUGAL and gurning RONALDO as for the other side of the draw ..... who's picking GERMANY and FRANCE to meet in the semi? wonder what you're thinking now i think ITALY will beat the germans and don't put it past ICELAND to shock the hosts ..... now a bit of foreshadowing from me i played a SENSIBLE SOCCER 1.0 world cup, and guess who made the FINAL? WALES and ITALY i'm calling it NOW THAT'S THE FINAL

Golden Genetation of individuals. That's what Belgium were.
Wales played like a team the way they have all tournament. That's why they're moving in and why they'll beat Portugal as well.

Golden Genetation of individuals. That's what Belgium were. To be honest, a few of the "Golden Generations" of recent years have been that way. The England of Beckham, Owen, Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard, Ferdinand, Campbell? Outstanding individuals, rarely hinted at being anywhere near as good as a team. The Portugal of Figo, Baía, Rui Costa, Sousa, Fernando Couto, Sérgio Conceição, Simao, the young Ronaldo... outstanding individual talent, never looked like a cohesive unit any time they played a half-decent team in a tournament situation.

Finally a breakthrough in the Germany-Italy game.
Mesut Ozil in the 65th minute.
Italy equalizes... Leonard Bonucci penalty. Germany concede for the first time this tournament.
Not sure what Boateng was thinking with the handball there.
1-1 after 90 minutes. This one's going to extra time. No team has looked significantly weaker or stronger; could easily swing either way.
And still 1-1 after 120 minutes. Penalties to decide this. Before this game, I would have expected Germany to have won already.

6-5 after 18 penalties.
Germany just squeeze through. That was some penalty shootout, with only 4 of the first 10 going in.

That felt worse than England being knocked out. Gutted.

Wow what a shootout, never thought I'd see Germany miss that many but they still bloody won.
Now my impression of Keown's commentary on BBC "quality quality quality quality quality quality quality quality..."

Hard to believe that the Germans, who've now won six penalty shoot-outs in a row, could miss that many penalties and still not be punished.

Muller, Ozil & Schweinsteiger all missed pens for Germany but they still won. Shows experience means nothing in Penalty shootouts really.

Muller. I love you but, you can kiss my ass with that pen. Dear lord.

The penalty misses of Muller, Schweinsteiger, Zaza and Pelle were especially bad.

The penalty misses of Muller, Schweinsteiger, Zaza and Pelle were especially bad. You only had one job Zaza, one job.

Steven Gerrard has confirmed he's in talks for a coaching role with England, as well as being on the panel to decide the new head coach.

Steven Gerrard has confirmed he's in talks for a coaching role with England, as well as being on the panel to decide the new head coach. Surprised he didn't wait for a Liverpool job first. I hope he fights any attempt to put a yes man in the job.
