Great effort until the end from Iceland but France had far, far too much quality tonight. They play like that against Germany and they'll give them a hell of a game. Gunnarsson's lucky he didn't take a red card. He gratuitously straight-up charged the other guy without even pretending to be going for the ball, right in front of the ref and then had the galls to act surprised. For the shove on Griezmann? It was a foul but that's never a red card. Ever. Ramming a dude for no reason is not a red card? How? If you do that outside a football match you get arrested.

Kudos to Iceland, they may be out but dammit they went out swinging.
They had a hell of a run.

Yeah, it's not a red card, it wasn't violent conduct, it was a foul sure but it wasn't even close to being a red card. Trust me, I used to referee. I get that you love your country man but you've got to stop putting the blinkers on every time you watch them. And the outside football thing isn't relevant - if you trip someone while they're running outside of a match you could technically be done for assualt. You do it in the confines of a match and it might not even be a yellow card.

Dude rammed another player for the sole purpose of hurting him. It's a gratuitous act of violence, you can't even argue it was should-to-shoulder.

Dude rammed another player for the sole purpose of hurting him. It's a gratuitous act of violence, you can't even argue it was should-to-shoulder. You're not reading this properly are you? I'm not arguing it was shoulder-to-shoulder, I'm not saying what the Icelander did was right. I'm not saying that it wasn't a foul. What I am saying is under no circumstances was that a sending off. If it was there would be six red cards a game and football would become a non-contact sport. For it to be a sending off it has to meet at least one of seven criteria. The only one that could possibly apply to this situation is serious foul play. That was not serious foul play. Honestly, I can't make this more clear - that's never, ever a red card. A booking, as Dr. Doom said, maybe, but even then that wouldn't be for the "gratuitous act of violence" because force wasn't the issue, it's only possibly a yellow card because of how cynical the challenge was - with no intention of playing the ball. So in conclusion, definite foul, possible caution, never a dismissal.

Rumour going around that Gus Hiddink might be the new England manager. I suppose they could do worse.

Obviously anyone who takes on the England job is f***ing mug at the end of the day, but could do well worse than Hiddink.

Rumour going around that Gus Hiddink might be the new England manager. I suppose they could do worse. Failed to get Russia to World Cup 2010, failed to get Turkey to Euro 2012, failed to get Netherlands to Euro 2016. He's got England managerial pedigree, all right. The other rumour that's going around is Big Sam is high on the F.A.'s list of candidates. He gets results with underperforming players, at least.

Like it or not, Big Sam would at least give the English team a style. One that, I feel, is much better suited for them than the "silky" style they've been trying and failing with. Attractiveness be damned.

No Aaron Ramsey today for Wales because of the dumbass two bookings rule.
Hope it doesn't hurt them too badly. He's been a stud.

Amazing that two teams who play in red are not wearing any red between them.

Bale, Ronaldo, and Sanches the only players doing anything other than playing LVG/Wenger side to side crap.

How the f*** do you not call that second goal offsides? Sanches was clearly off.
