Mostly just the sports stars. "Hey look, it's Jimmy Jack Johnstone from the Cincinnati Wildcats!" Oh....okay. Obviously that doesn't apply to people like Shaq or Floyd Mayweather. How dare you. Jimmy Jack Johnstone single-handedly won five sportsball World Bowls for the Wildcats. Show him some respect.

That time they had Eenis appear and the wrestlers wrestle in the main event wearing basketball jerseys and a fake John Travolta appear. All on the same show.

I never used to think about it but every time I watch the Network at my friends house and within seconds of Pillman showing up and hearing BAH GAWD CINCINATTI BENGALS ALL STAR TOILET CUBICLE DEFENSE BAH GAWD NP DOUBLE Q ALL AMERICAN TRACK STAR ONCE THREW A HAM HOCK SEVEN HUNDRED MILES LIKE IT WAS A NEW BORN KID AGAINST THE DELAWARE CLOWNSUITS DERBY GAME RETIRED PANTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PAISLEY PARK UNIVERSITY GOLF AMATEUR MY GOD ALMIGHTY HOLDS THE RECORD ON KONAMI TRACK AND FIELD IN HURDLES it's like hearing a blast of piercing feedback. Any time he does it, for whoever it is. I just have no idea what any of that garbage is or means or why it matters. DELICIOUS, FRUITY FRUIT FRUITY BAH GAWD KING I GOTTA HAVE MAH SKITTLES!!!! This segment with Shelton Benjamin, Trish Stratus and Vince; www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrmAkJtJOHcWhat is this? Is this a parody of something? Is it commenting on something timeless and relevant? Why the two camera set up? Why does the audience sound canned? Someone explain to me, a filthy foreigner, look at my craaaaazy passport!

Speaking as someone who a lot of the smalltime actors/sports dudes are lost on, it depresses me that there's people in this topic who don't know who Buzz Aldrin is. I mean I get that most people don't know Michael Collins, but Buzz Aldrin is the guy who Buzz Lightyear was named for and is hardly a forgettable figure from history.
Also yeah. Basically any of these college football/basketball types, or baseball players, is gonna be lost on the rest of the world. Sure there may be the odd person who recognises the guests because they're from something they follow, but in terms of casual awareness of people who don't actively follow something (similar to how in Europe or South America everyone knows who say, Messi & Ronaldo are without following football)? Yeah, virtually none of the Guest Host era will show up on non-Americans' radar. I mean there's several who I purely know as being WWE guests- Kathy Lee & Hoda and Maria Menonous for instance, whoever the hell they are. I just about know who Dale Earnhardt Jr was as a friend is a big NASCAR fan, but most non-Americans don't have a clue.

I still find it hard to watch KOTR 94 with him all night asking that same question, man it was annoying. This is a really weird one. Art Donovan was a great football player, but he retired 33 YEARS before KOTR 1994 and played for a team that had already moved out of Baltimore ten years prior to the event. Kind of the reverse of this topic, but I remember JR in WCW talking up people's football careers in WCW. Now if you're Ron Simmons or Dr Death, who played for big time, successful college football programs with legendary coaches and teammates, that's one thing. But he would constantly talk up Marcus Bagwell as having been a star at Sprayberry High School. As far as I can tell, that is a modest sized suburban high school in Marietta, GA with no particular winning tradition of note. So he's talking up an athletic background that probably 75% of the audience has. It's one thing to be Uncle Rico. It's another to be Uncle Rico'ing for someone else.

Yeah, it was a parody of this commercial starring NFL player Terrell Owens and TV star Nicollette Sheridan. Besides the ad itself, WWE was poking fun at the outrage many people felt when they saw it.

I mentioned this in another thread The NFL did something similar as the first part, and there was OUTRAGE! from people... Vince in that sketch is representing those people and using some of their own words in mocking fashion.

Shasta McNasty in 1999 WTF was Shasta McNasty? I'll cut WWE slack on that one, since I assume that was a Smackdown, and UPN was the home for Smackdown. It stands to reason they'd promote one of UPN's shows as part of the relationship, like they've done for USA network many times.

Also Big Show appeared on Shasta McNasty on a few occasions too I believe

One of my biggest examples, K-f***ing-fed, when he appeared for the first time, they had Hugo Savinovich explaining on spanish commentary "HE IS THE HUSBAND OF BRITNEY SPEARS" or some shit like that, and seriously, my country was big on the showbiz thing at the time, especially when it came to Britney, but seriously, i never IN MY LIFE heard about K-f***ing-fed at that point, and when it came to Britney i thought she just had a "laid back" boyfriend or something after Justin Timberlake, and WWE hypes this motherf***er like he was some TOP celebrity rapper or something by costing John Cena the champion of champions match, in an era where i was starting to have my complaints about Cena already, they have this "WHO?" guy, this supposed celebrity beating him (at least setting up for the Umaga feud). And nothing screams CELEBRITY more when you have less than 5000 followers on twitter now.
Other examples, most RAW guest hosts from 2009 that didn't have a former wrestler or Hugh Jackman, i didn't know any of these guys except for Mini Me maybe.
As for sports, i'm pretty much on the casual outside the US side where Football/Soccer is the one more popular around, i mean i could obviously remember the Wayne Rooney / Barrett banter from a year ago, it's quite a shame though because Rooney was not nearly as big as he was like 6 or 7 years ago (and arguably he was not even THAT big back then), the other sports guys i can easily digest are some NBA ones because i like Basketball well enough to know about them, but i'm still casual enough to not now about whatever Los Angeles Clippers guy might appear on RAW (no disrespect to Clippers fans), and i don't give a shit about the NFL so asides from Tom Brady and Peyton Manning i don't know anyone from there.
In other music examples, most of the guys that performed at Wrestlemania, that very specific Wrestlemania was the very first time i've heard of them except for Limp Bizkit (who i knew about because of Taker before anyways).
A side note, i could make a little bet that some guys (of my country at least) know that the President of the US is "That guy who got Stunned by Stone Cold at Wrestlemania 23... oh and he is also a millionaire".

Comparing wrestlers who "can't win the big one" to the 90's Buffalo Bills This reference comes up EVERY TIME a main eventer keeps losing and finds their way into another title match. I'm like (1) who outside of North America/NFL fandom knows this, (2) who outside of North America knows where Buffalo even is and (3) oh crap now kids in uganda know how shitty our team is

Comparing wrestlers who "can't win the big one" to the 90's Buffalo Bills (2) who outside of North America knows where Buffalo even is It's in New York state. I only know that because WWE have ran TV there before. I pretty much learnt everything I know about America from golden age Simpsons and attitude era WWF

James Corden is a British Comedian/Actor. "Gavin and Stacy", right? I saw his parts on "Very British Problems". That whole series came off as trying to label social anxiety disorder as an anglo-specific phenomenon (it isn't).

Anything involving college sports. May as well be a different language to me. It's not limited to WWE. I've seen plenty of American sports websites who include college sports in their biggest stories of the year lists along with the World Cup, Olympics etc....which I find completely ridiculous. College Basketball and Football does big business Even so, I don't watch college sports. I'm convinced that there's too much emphasis on sports at post-secondary institutions. It's downright unhealthy with all of the scandals revolving around it.
