Normally, I'd be cynical about DLC, but the DLC for Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors Legends was very worthwhile and, with the possible exception of the Master Quest pack in the first one, didn't feel like stuff that ought to have been in the game but was left out.
Additionally, I somehow only recently saw that Monolith Soft helped out on making the open world map. Given how really, really good the open world was handled in Xenoblade Chronicles X, that's a good sign this won't be as barren as a lot of open world games have a problem with.

It looks alright, but I'm just not a fan of those super saturated colors like they did in Skyward Sword.
I wish the style was just a little closer to Twilight Princess, which in my opinion is the most beautiful to look at.

Yeah, Nintendo has been doing DLC packs for a while. Hyrule Warriors and Mario Karts have been pretty much stated as how to do DLC correctly, so I'm not terribly worried yet.

Honestly I think DLC is very overdue in a Zelda game. If I were making it there probably would've been DLC add-ons to Skyward Sword and the HD Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.
Anyway, Breath of the Wild itself... I have my trepidation about it since I tend to see, "Massive sandbox," and think, "Boring filler in between actually playing the game," plus I was hugely hyped for Skyward Sword but only actually like about 40% of it, but hype is starting to get me, helped by the strength of that last trailer.

I'd say Super Smash Bros. was the only true disappointment by Nintendo. So, maybe this'll be good.

Even then the problem with smash was more the price than the content (also not having a season pass type thing to my memory.)

I think the only real cases of Nintendo messing up with DLC thus far are the first two games that did it, NSMB2 and Awakening. Former has a bunch of overpriced level packs for a pointless side mode rather than anything really substantial, latter has some very good stuff in there but also costs WAY too much to get it all, to the point of costing far more than the game itself does. Which I guess is a complaint you could level at Fates too, but you get way more bang for your buck that way given you get two full games as part of it and something of a micro game.

I posted this in the Switch thread as I couldn't find a dedicated thread but now I'll just post it here too....
I've just seen the first review for Breath of the Wild and it's Edge Magazine. If you don't know, Edge has been going 23 years and has only given 18 games perfect scores (not including retroactively re-scoring some games). Make it 19 games now, they gave it a 10.

I'll be going to my 2nd midnight release for this. I reserved the Wii U version because I'll likely won't be getting a Switch until late Summer or the Holidays.

Has there been confirmation on how big the game is? I've heard it'll be bigger than Skyrim

Has there been confirmation on how big the game is? I've heard it'll be bigger than Skyrim In terms of map size, yes, from the sounds of things, but that's just in terms of raw size. I'm curious how it will work out in practice. It is definitely an excellent sign that Monolith Soft worked with the team on making the map. They're VERY GOOD at that, and given how many open world attempts fall flat due to just being kinda barren, that's also something they handled well on Xenoblade Chronicles X. Enough going on to keep things interesting, but not overloaded to where stuff's attacking you every 3 steps and making travel a pain in the ass.

I care how full it is. Who cares if it's this massive open world experience if there is nothing to do in it... though the alternative problem of having too many things to do leaves you with choice paralysis... or whatever the proper term is.

Yeah one of big concerns was if the world had stuff to do. I've never played Xenoblade chronicles but people say the team who made it made it an engaging world so thats good

From the previews I've seen, there's enough to do in the whole world.

Non quest stuff even, as the game encouraged and invited exploration via the world itself. It was AWESOME to find a secret area and there was almost no indication there.

Breath of the Wild also received 5 Mics from Source magazine, and an enthusiastic thumbs up from Roger Ebert even though he's dead.

Admittedly I might put more stock in that if they hadn't given one to Skyward Sword. Anyway, yeah... I dunno. I've gotten my copy and the Switch paid off already, but I'm still not really expecting to actually like it. Going in hoping to but in open world games I'm a very, "Just skip me to my objective and let me continue the plot," kind of player. Someone who taxis everywhere in GTA.
