I posted this in the Switch thread as I couldn't find a dedicated thread but now I'll just post it here too.... I've just seen the first review for Breath of the Wild and it's Edge Magazine. If you don't know, Edge has been going 23 years and has only given 18 games perfect scores (not including retroactively re-scoring some games). Make it 19 games now, they gave it a 10. Admittedly I might put more stock in that if they hadn't given one to Skyward Sword. Anyway, yeah... I dunno. I've gotten my copy and the Switch paid off already, but I'm still not really expecting to actually like it. Going in hoping to but in open world games I'm a very, "Just skip me to my objective and let me continue the plot," kind of player. Someone who taxis everywhere in GTA. I haven't always agreed with their ratings, for example they gave both Bayonetta games perfect scores and even though I really enjoyed them, neither of them are even close to a ten IMO. But for the most part I agree with them.

One thing i like about how big this world is is that it makes Hyrule actually feel like this magical land blessed by the gods with a magical wish granting object.

I've complained about this in the Nintendo thread, but I've had the worst time trying to pre-order this game. I probably shouldn't have waited so long, but I didn't expect Amazon to sell out. I'm holding out hope that I'll be able to walk into a local Wal-Mart/GameStop/Best Buy and find it on Friday.

The Wii U version became unavailable on Amazon a couple of days ago and now the Switch version is unavailable too. I know Nintendo has a well earned reputation for never making enough copies of a product to drive up demand but this is a bit silly. It's the flagship launch game for their new console and was always going to be highly in demand for the Wii U. Even if it they slightly underestimated just how many people would want a copy, it's a new Zelda game. For f***'s sake make more copies!

It's a new Zelda game and it's THE launch game for the Switch, there's no way they somehow underestimated the demand for it. If they did, they're complete idiots.

I've told coworkers I'm ducking out of the office on Friday morning to buy a copy. Didn't even bother to lie about it being something else. Nope, I gotta go buy a video game.

Something to keep track of for those getting the Switch version. According to Kotaku's review of the Switch itself, when playing Zelda docked the game actually runs worse than when played in handheld mode. With very noticeable framerate drops.
The prevailing theory for the cause is because the system is natively running the game at 720p(because that is the resolution of the system's screen), but is upscaling it to 900 when docked and that is affecting performance.
So if you are getting this for Switch it might be better to play it in handheld mode.

Massive storm on my end today and had to leave town as a result, so I'm probably not going to be able to pick my Switch up for a day or two longer. So if you are getting this for Switch it might be better to play it in handheld mode. I legitimately doubt I will ever play the Switch in anything but handheld form. Hating the hassle of bothering to hook the Wii U to the TV is the biggest reason I never play Splatoon.

With all the system issues and now talks of frame drops on the docked Switch, I think I made the better call getting it on the Wii U.

Famitsu gave it a 40/40. IGN gave it a 10.

The review embargo has been lifted and I am seeing perfect scores out the ass. On GameRankings of the currently recorded 29 reviews only 7 aren't a perfect score(i.e. 5/5 or 10/10). And even still the remains 7 are all a 90% score or higher(so 4.5/5 or 9/10, etc.).

"The most impressive game Nintendo has EVER created" -Gamespot If that is the truth, man... that's a sentence I wouldn't use lightly at all.
