I don't mean to post another WTH DC thread but I really wish WB would have hired a guy that actually looks like Aquaman for the movie, instead of saying yeah your right, he's lame, so ahh... here's the Game of Thrones guy.
Charlie Hunnam would have been perfect, Chris Pine before he got cast in WW, Liam Helmsworth (that would have caused a ruckus.) Ryan Goslin, any blond hair Hollywood hot guy that can play a guy with a bit of an ego would have been fine.
Okay I'm going to bed now...

A samoan/pacific Islander makes perfect sense for the role. The fact he's the only one in the movie with tht heritage is what makes no sense. And Mamoa has lots of credits to his name other than Game of Thrones. Dudes pretty bad ass. He really carries the gritty aquaman well.

Atlantis is also supposed to be in the Atlantic ocean not the Pacific you know hence the name... so Polynesian really doesn't make a lot of sense either directly or from sharing a common ancestor since it is believed they likely came from Asia and uh... Asia is not connected to the Atlantic ocean directly. All That said as Atlantis doesn't exist there is no "right way" for Atlanteans to look and you could literally make them Blue fish people and it would be just as "realistic" as anything else. And honestly when it comes to the DC movie universe it's way near the bottom of any problem I might have with it.

I will say he looks like really Nineties Arthur. I share your concerns, but only because I haven't seen Momoa successfully carry a movie yet. we'll see.
I will say that many of my female friends are STOKED about him being Aquaman.

They were pretty obviously going for the mid-90's look with the character, no doubt in an attempt to get away from the image that has become widely known as a joke thanks to geeks like Seth MacFarlane. I have a bigger gripe with their Barry Allen. I probably wouldn't if the kid on the TV show looked like Barry, but he doesn't. 3 live action Barry Allen's and they've all had dark hair.

I'm tired of fighting it and the various other alternative castings this past year. Am sure he'll be fine and dude can probably do decent underwater stuff.

Not complaining. Peter David's run on Aquaman was awesome. The concept of the character is too deep to be wasted on tounge and cheek stuff, and his orginal design is hard to pull off and keep things serious.

My biggest beef is that he isn't blonde.
I'm okay with changing things for movies, but his being blonde was part of the character. The other Atlanteans were distrustful of him due to his blonde hair because they view it as evil/a curse. Atlanteans aren't blonde except Aquaman was because his father was a blonde human.

Yeah, there's a definite shortage of generic interchangeable white guys in superhero movies, alright.

Are they going to change him in the comic too? Cause people are going to see the movie, go out their comic book store and say ohh... it's the other guy. I guess that's my problem with it.
Keeping him blonde and badass would help kill all negitive AM jokes, where this only adds to the debate.

I'm against the casting because I dont think Momoa can act. He's one note.
The fact he doesnt look anything like Aquaman, even PAD Aquaman, is just additional to that fact for me.
