If Affleck's speech runs long, I hope they play him off with this:

I didn't see the movie yet, but I love it when a less famous sibling gets their moment.
Denzel looked crushed

I'm actually surprised by this. I'm not, actually. Heard a lot good about his performance so I had him picked as the likely winner a while ago.

I know he's made some huge mistakes and offences in his past, but that performance in that film was so good. The optics are bad looking in, but if the award goes to the best performance Casey deserved the win.
I feel for Denzel though, this was a huge passion project for him and he had the momentum coming in.

Congratulations to the writer of "The Last Exorcism Part II" on his big Oscar win. But seriously, while I'll never see "La La Land" unless I'm paid to, Chazelle made "Whiplash", one of the half-dozen best movies of the 2010s, so he's alright in my book. That's the main reason why I'm going to see it. I'm not a fan of musicals, I'm sick and tired of the whole "Love Letter to LA/NYC" genre, and Ryan Gosling is one of my least favorite actors. That's how good Whiplash was.

Real talk. Is there a more unfortunate last name for an African American to grow up with than "Negga"?. Jeez...

I actually didn't see any of the movies nominated this year (other than bits and pieces of the O. J. Simpson documentary when it aired on ESPN), that said I am glad Damien Chazelle won best director. Not for what he did in La La Land. But for what he did with Whiplash two years ago. That is how much I like that particular movie (still mad he didn't get best adapted screenplay for Whiplash).

Can someone explain why I'd ever want to see "Florence Foster Jenkins"? It's a movie about a rich person who gets everything she wants despite being wildly untalented.

I would've been happy with any of the women winning outside of Meryl. They were all fantastic. I'd personally give the slight edge to Portman, closely followed by Huppert and Stone.

You aren't wrong and I understand people feeling that way. It's tricky because it's a performance that is a tour de force, given by someone who is not easy to like and perhaps is easily hated.
