I don't believe in ghosts, but if I walked into a museum one day and saw that portrait of Vigo, I would quite possibly piss myself.

As I said and tend to believe, ghost sightings are very similar to Bigfoot, UFO's, etc. The claim in and of itself is so extraordinary, unique, and rare that individuals are risking either public to private ridicule by making those statements of having personal encounters of said phenomenon's.
After reading cases like the Amityville Horror I tend to find myself believing that there's something to those hauntings.

Not a shred of actual, testable evidence in thousands of years. Nothing.

Yeah, they're not real. I forget who it was, but they said if ghosts were real or even maybe real, it would be all over the news. There is life after death! It would be on CNN and every major news network every time somebody claimed to have a paranormal encounter.

some doctor proved that ghosts were actually people in robotic suits intent on taking over the universe while killing off humanity.

I don't believe in ghosts but I've had a few weird experiences in my house. My mum died of lung cancer nearly ten years ago and she was famous for her smoking (she would rip the filter off a cigarette before smoking them). Every now and again there is a very strong smell of cigarette smoke in our house. No one smokes in our house (and not even a guest has smoked a cigarette in it for years). We've had pretty much all the furniture, carpets and flooring replaced in the last few years, so there's next to nothing that can be keeping the smell of smoke in it. But (and as I used to be a very heavy smoker years ago, there is no mistaking the smell of it) the smell is so strong it is like someone is in the room smoking. I always look up and say "hello Mum" and carry on whatever I'm doing. My wife has never smoked in her life and she's had similar incidents of smelling the smoke. As I said, I don't believe in ghosts but I always acknowledge it as being my mum popping in for a visit. I can't explain why I do, I just do. It's actually quite reassuring in a way.

Dr. Spangler? Back on topic, definitely something in it. When my grandfather died, many of his friends and people he was closest to in later life would say he visited them in their dreams to not worry about him. He had a broad group of friends from all walks of life (race, culture, varying religious beliefs) and most of them reported the same message in those dreams. Grief is a universal human trait, regardless of race, culture and religion. Grief indeed. But having different people at the funeral telling us the same experience, for me, is something I can never prove but it's impossible to deny something in the beyond exists.

Yeah, ghosts aren't real. It'd be really cool if they were, but they are not.

I believe in them, and I refuse to let doubters sway my opinion.
There's no hard evidence of a lot of things that people believe in.

I want to say no BUT when I was about 4 or 5, I woke up in the middle of the night, went to the window in my room and looked out to find a little girl in overalls and pigtails at my window, looking back at me. It happened quite a few times. So, reoccurring dream or ??

As a fearless amateur ghost hunter (I've been to Preston Castle and the USS Hornet overnight multiple times. I really need to go to more places!) I've caught and seen evidence that speaks to SOMETHING being real. I'm still ultra skeptical about what these somethings are, but some of my personal experiences include ...
-Audio recorder picking up a crystal clear "TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF" after I turned a strobe light on.
-Shadow/mist figure leaning out of a doorway, as seen by 3 other people.
-Audio recorder saying "GET OFF PETER" when I lay on the Dr's bed.
-The temperature where I stood dropping 15 degrees. Just where I stood, and not even two steps away from me.
I'm going back to Preston Castle next month. Hopefully I catch some more stuff! Ghosts? Who knows, but there is something going on in these "haunted" places.

Not a shred of actual, testable evidence in thousands of years. Nothing. To be fair the better part of those thousands of years was spent doing dumbshit instead of paying attention.

But having different people at the funeral telling us the same experience, for me, is something I can never prove but it's impossible to deny something in the beyond exists. If they were all his friends, it makes sense that a sense of loss would be commonly felt. It's also likely that they were trying to console his family.
