Sweet we can get a Lobo movie.
But this does sound quite pathetic, DC/WB are like the TNA of comic movie companies (They had a great spell but now it's just sad)

They already have some M-rated Batman games, so it's not that far a stretch. Yeah, but as always, this sort of stuff works for Batman because it was a darker franchise to begin with. Most DC properties aren't so it doesn't work for them. Also, age ratings on games are ridiculous, they'd probably get a T rating for characters frowning at one-another. On the age ratings, I remember Driv3r getting a Mature rating for just "Violence". Not "graphic violence" or "blood and gore", but just "violence". On topic, this is more of the same old "We won't get it" from DC & Warner Bros.. There's a way to use the R rating to tell a story & a way to use the rating simply for gratuity. Which way will they go?

Inferior Five, but as cannibal splattergore fiends.
Firehawk: the incendiary stripper (whose fire powers are based from her big fake tit implants) who solves snuff film crimes.
And of course........the Question: "Will you help me stopping being a necrophiliac?"

R-rating usually means lower budget which means more creative freedom. I just wish they'd stop messing around with the shared universe gimmick. It's already creatively bankrupt for me so I could stand for DC just to do more stand alone flicks where they actually give writers/directors creative freedom instead of worrying trying to connect everything.
I'd take a lower budget Batman, Suicide Squad, etc type movies if they were given the kind of freedom Margold had on Logan to actually make a good movie first and not worry about all the silly "shared universe," "character history," nonsense that people are overly invested in. Marvel's got that market cornered, just move on and do your own thing. It's really unfortunate that Marvel's biggest lesson to DC was to constrict artistic freedom of creatives in favor of "universe building." It's a great model for creating an overarching catalog of films, but a bad model for making great individual films.

All this means to me is that they're open to that option. Which is good. Freedom is fun.
Fox kicking that door down in a big way is a good thing for superhero movies. Enough of the bandwagon jumping garbage. It's more seeing a trail that's been blazed and saying "Hey that's cool. Now we can all play in this space."
Lobo, Justice League Dark or even Gotham City Sirens would be decent choices for an R rating.

To be fair, all Marvel movies until Captain America Civil War(and lesser extent WInter SOldier) are great individually and don't limit thenselves for universe building. Civil War worked to build a universe with those limits because it is already really big.

On one hand, it's nice to have the "butcher it to get it down to a PG-13 or we cannot make any money" sensibility dying, but a movie being rated R is never going to make me care about something if I otherwise wouldn't, more that quick cuts to hide gore, shitty digital blood effects, and sloppily minced oaths can hamper a movie in a big way.
Here, though, it seems like Warner Brothers not understanding what people want, but I'd gladly be wrong.

Civil War worked to build a universe with those limits because it is already really big. I'd say the cut-off was the first Avengers movie for me. They lack a significant enough level of distinction or individual voice from the writer/directors to make any one really stand out over another. Winter Solider, I'm told, is the exception. Though the financial success of the films are unprecedented, I was pretty let down after the first wave of films. I was hoping that they'd be more creatively diverse in their presentation. As it went on, it became clear that idiosyncratic styles were muted in favor of overall cohesion (again, VERY smart branding by Marvel), which was disappointing for someone like me who is more interested in a director's creative voice than where it "fits" in the universe both in terms of story and in tone. But I'm glad these movies are out there and it's interesting that they're beginning to pull more directors with TV experience to helm the films. Again, totally makes sense because in TV the director's vision is secondary to maintaining the overall flavor/style of the show. I mean, I'm sure that's part of why Wright walked from Ant-Man or you won't see ...I dunno, Wes Anderson directing a Marvel film. Like I said, I'm glad MCU does it like they do - a lot of people get a lot of joy from watching them - but for me it became too repetitive too quickly.

See, this is where DC kind of messed up, trying to do exactly what Marvel/Disney was doing, rather than just waiting them out, and THEN doing their superhero universe. If I were DC, I would have been providing an alternative, and making R Rated movies from their VERTIGO line. I mean, SANDMAN, PREACHER, TRANSMETROPOLITAN, FABLES, a relaunched HELLBLAZER or SWAMP THING....that would have been the way to go, rather than trying to jumpstart their own AVENGERS without the 4 year build of single movies that it took to get to that point. Marvel and Disney aren't even making R rated film. FOX is....

(Huge advocate for Fox never selling the X-men rights back over here. Fox has their issues creatively but they allow way more freedom than Disney ever has with their comic stuff or their new super safe wal-mart brand Star Wars)
