Someone really needs to carefully break down for them that removing Venom's connection to Spider-Man completely destroys every bit of the appeal and point the character has.

So they're going to develop a script, design all the characters, cast actors, shoot the movie, and complete all of the post-production in 20 months? Even if they have a script ready, that's an extremely tight deadline.

I wish they'd do it.
Keep Venom separate from the Spiderman-verse and just make an alien entity movie. Like a throwback to the FLY or Species.
They could do an Agent Venom style one. Some ex-solider (maybe drummed out of the military for being TOO violent & "venomous") gets hired by a PMC to use the symbiote to do high-level operations. The symbiote begins to corrupt this guy and he struggles separating himself from it. Maybe he splits off from it because he realizes the error of his ways and sees the symobiote as an extension of what he could become if he went too far down a dark path. It gets a new host that the guy has to fight. Human vs Symbiote and a nice character arc for the main character. Because the solider had been linked with the symbiote he knows it's weakness (and vice versa)so it'd make for a good combo of psychological battle + physical battle.
What's great about this is it has sequel potential (because everything needs a sequel these days for some dumb reason - money, I know). He separates the symbiote from bad guy in movie 1 but isn't able to kill it. It gets away and links up with someone else that the protag from movie 1 has to track and fight in movie 2.
Blomkamp would be perfect for this.
The beauty of this setup is that IF they were bound and determined to tie it into a Spiderman movie - it's super easy because you just have the PMC that captured the symbiote the first time re-capture it after this movie and show them going to NYC to sell it again.
Then when the SM movie picks up it's already established why the symbiote is prone towards harsher tactics that SM will turn away from. I honestly would just prefer a standalone symbiote movie but if tie it into SM is a must for people for some reason then that's a way they could to do it later on if they wanted.

Like, I guess maybe do the Lethal Protector storyline? Maybe have the Carnage symbiote splinter off for a confrontation?
I think that could maybe carry a movie. It'd probably feel like Spawn or something, but sure, you could probably squeeze a movie out of it.
But then what, though? Like, as f***ing hilarious as it'd be to try to do Maximum Carnage or Separation Anxiety without Spider-Man, it'd be a huge mess, and Anti-Venom would be entirely too soon. Though again, would be funny to see them try to do Mister Negative and expect us to take it seriously.

It's not like the next Avengers movie is going to be on a cosmic scale with a perfect opportunity to introduce the symbiote in a creative way.

How the hell do you make a Venom movie without connecting it to Spider-Man?!

Well, considering the little twerp Marvel cast as Flash Thompson, this is our best shot at a proper Agent Venom. That being said, how in the flaming hell do you do Venom minus Spider-Man?

There's been talk of some sort of Venom in some form or another since the 90s, possibly even longer than Todd McFarlane has been talking about another Spawn movie

Just don't get, like, every '90s comic writer who tried this. /Sony probably still thinks it's the '90s if they think a Venom movie would draw. //And oh yeah, because R-rated.

It was my understanding sequel rights to hollands spider man and spin off property remained to sony its a shared venture and sony will absolutely milk it.
I see nothing preventing them from tying it into their shares mcu movie

Well...this is interesting. {Spoiler}https://mic.com/articles/171435/this-amazing-reddit-theory-has-us-believing-life-may-be-a-prequel-to-sony-s-venom#.t6KqPoEIQ
I'm sure it's an incredible coincidence, but considering no one thought Splice would be related to Unbreakable, and that Sony could use a punch like that for the movie...who knows?

Well...this is interesting. That would be neat but I think that considering sony has a partnership with Marvel I actually can see a symbiote cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy v2

Sony have also now announced a Black Cat and Silver Sable movie.
Much like Venom still no word if they are tying it the MCU or Spider-man.
probably less necessary to have Spidey in this one than Venom...
but Black Cat not tied to Spidey seems like a mis-step too.

I'm actually all for these if they are going to tie to the MCU and have input from Marvel Studios. They have had some forgettable flicks, but so far none that were outright bad.
However, I expect both of these to be flops if they are in a stand alone universe.

I dunno going RIGHT into a Venom solo movie seems like a bad idea even if it's tied to the MCU, Cat and Sable require far less setup. edit: also in case it wasn't clear it's not a Black Cat Movie and a Silver Sable movie... it'd be 1 movie with the both of them.
