Capcom tried is hardest with Resident Evil 6. Thank goodness they redeemed themselves with 7.

When Rayman introduced The Rabbids and they decided to "Despicable Me" the franchise and "Minionize" them to hell.

Suikoden IV didn't quite kill the franchise (that honour goes to Tierkreis) but it did deal a crippling blow to the Suikoden series and destroyed its credibility. The series suffered diminishing returns for Tactics, V and Tierkreis and then the PSP game was the final blow.
Raving Rabbids seriously hurt the Rayman series. It wasn't until they seperated the Rabbids from Rayman where it managed to get back on track with Origins and Legends.
The Third Birthday was the death knell for Parasite Eve although there hadn't been a game released in the decade between 2 & Third Birthday. Still though, it was a mediocre game with an obnoxious control system on a platform that nobody owned outside of Japan. It was basically a perfect storm

It didn't last forever, but Donkey Kong 3 killed that franchise for over a decade before they gave it another shot.

DK64 was 16 years after that, in 1999 (and five years after DK Country, the first DK game to come along after DK3).

Though, it's amusing that DK had two comebacks out of near-obscurity.

Yeah, 5 may be my favorite one of the series outside of 2, and one of the best RPGs on the PS2, and that's really saying something on a console chock full of RPGs.

I just hope Star Wars Battlefront hasn't done this

Speaking of Bubsy made me think of Earthworm Jim 3D which killed that franchise off too. Command and Conquer seems to have vanished, not sure what killed it off. Soul Calibur 5 seems to have finished off the sword fighting series for the time being. I just hope Star Wars Battlefront hasn't done this Unlikely considering Battlefront 2 is on the way, I enjoyed the first game too.

It seems that Devil May Cry 2 put the series in limbo for a bit until Capcom came out with DMC 3, which revived it completely.

Command and Conquer seems to have vanished, not sure what killed it off. EA did. Furthermore, it was a franchise created outside of EA, and they're like Vince McMahon in that aspect of things.

Has another Mirrors Edge been announced?
If not I've got the feeling EA have killed that series with the really mediocre and boring last game.
