I noticed the trademark registration deal a few weeks ago (before Corgan did? lol) earlier in this thread when investigating the t-shirt thing. Looked like Tharpe tried to reinstate them once he knew he was selling. Oops! Wrestling is such an amazingly scummy business, this shit is amazing.

What is NWA-LOL anyway? And I thought NWA-TNA was a bad name!

there was also this... Language Warning... it is Cornette afterall. Since Triple H has the old NWA belt, does that make him the unofficial NWA Champion? ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Like they were discussing an obscure tape library or something The only tape library they could have discussed from a business standpoint is the Houston collection. Tharpe doesn't own it, but has essentially leased it from the widow of Paul Boesch for the streaming service he tried to start. I actually kind of hope things get cleared enough for her to sell it. She must be elderly by now, Paul has been gone for years, and while he didn't elaborate, Bruce Prichard said she could use the money.

I think that things are cleared enough for her to sell it- IIRC, Tharpe's been the go-between to try and sell the Houston library for her in that meeting (and before the kerfluffle that happened this week, there were some whispers Corgan's purchase will include full ownership of the Houston library, not just leasing it.)

Is there anything in the Houston library that's of value? Like a match or title change that is of historical significance?

Is there anything in the Houston library that's of value? Like a match or title change that is of historical significance? Its the most complete library that goes back pretty far. Brisco winning the NWA title from Race might be there. Also there are a decent number of cards that had both NWA and AWA championship matches. So if they are there it is kind of interesting. And I hope the library includes IW Marks commericals with them

Listening to the full Howard Brody interview in the Cornette podcast is very intersting.
Apparently the nwa was a non profit in the 40s so that they could avoid getting sued for antitrust. The nwa has always being corrupt and a con. Bruce Tharpe ended up owning it because Bob Trobich was running an insurance scam.
Brody also pretty much said that Corgan was sold a bill of goods. f*** i wouldn't be surprised if the wwe actually owns the name and just doesn't care.

Is there anything in the Houston library that's of value? Depends on what your idea of value is. Houston was a little different from most territories - it was more of a "super-territory" in ways, similar to St. Louis at the time. Instead of keeping his own roster, or bothering with a lot of angles or storylines, Boesch just "rented" A-listers and high midcarders from the other territories. So a card of his in 1980 may have, say, the Von Erichs from World Class, Dusty from Florida, Ivan Putski from the WWWF, Tully Blanchard from Southwest, Andre in a battle royal and Harley brought in to defend his title against someone like Bruiser Brody or Tony Atlas. The next show might have a double headliner of Dory Jr vs Billy Robinson and Wahoo vs Terry Funk. A couple of shows later would have the original Sheik make an appearance against Gino Hernandez and the show after that would have Bockwinkel brought in to face Putski. That sort of thing. Race defended his NWA belt here a LOT (even taking Atlas to a 60 minute broadway, which must have been a pleasant experience for Tony). Brody vs. a pre-prison Ken Patera when he was at his peak? It happened in Houston. Dusty vs. Bockwinkel for the AWA title? Happened here too. Terry Funk vs. Tully? Here. Peak 1983 JYD teaming up with Dusty? Also here. There wasn't much groundbreaking in Houston, it wasn't that sort of territory, but it has a lot of top A-list matches that weren't done anywhere else.

Howard Brody said it best about Corgan buying the NWA.
That in the present Billy Corgan himself is more important and recognized than the NWA. That the NWA is a dinosaur it had its time under the sun but now its dead.
The only reason the NWA has received attention here in FAN was because Rob Conway and Bruce Tharpe had weird cameos in New Japan, and because Billy Corgan bought a dead brand. I don't think i've ever seen a thread about NWA shows here.
Also the on demand service for the Houston territory is meaningless. Bruce Prichard revealed in his podcast that Boesch's widow is bad financially and that NWA on demand really doesn't raises any money.

The only NWA territory I hear anything positive about anymore is NWA Smoky Mountain, and even that I'm not sure about.
