I always have been curious about which was corgan's favorite company while growing up? He really must love his rasslin It's not a huge surprise, since JCP/WCW did a lot of bigger shows in Chicago once they started expanding, it was always a good market for them.

The Amphitheater was closed down in the early '80s. They came back with SuperClash '85 (Old Comiskey Park) and SuperClash III (UIC Pavilion), but aside from that, they rarely came to the city. Hell, the controversial tag title change in May 1986 was in nearby Hammond, Indiana.

They hit Chicago at least 5 times in 1986, and Rosemont (which might as well be Chicago to travelers coming in) 3-4 times. crazymax.org/newsite/results/awa-results-1986/You're right about '87, though - they hit at least 7-10 shows in Illinois that year but none in Chicago proper.

That's because, by that time, the AWA was doing a horseshit job of telling people when shows were coming to town. You didn't really know until AFTER THE show took place. Believe me, I was really upset I didn't go to Hammond. It's like 10 minutes from where I lived. Bob Luce had his show, but was working with Dick the Bruiser, so most of his ads were for WWA shows (yes, it still existed in 1988).

It took me a couple of minutes to get this. I shut the phone off, start walking back towards my job and suddenly burst out laughing.

Jim Cornette worked mega producer Rick Rubin to give him money to run shows.
Dixie and Bruce Tharpe conned Billy Corgan to give them money.
Paul Heyman almost conned producer and chairman of interscope Jimmy Iovine to give him money.
What the f*** is up with important people in the music business being lied to and tricked by failed promoters. Guess rich people like owning garbage.

Probably coincidence, but I received the following e-mail yesterday from the NWA streaming service.
"Dear valued customer,
Its been a busy season for our company with relocating our headquarters from Texas to Colorado, tackling a brand refresh, and working on some marketing initiatives we can't wait to unveil. As always, our customers remain at the center of why we do what we do. Each time you watch NWA On-Demand, our goal is to exceed your expectations by delivering content that's easy to access and engaging. In order to create the best subscriber experience possible, we'rerolling out a new website that's more interactive, user-friendly, and modern. As a subscriber, all you need to do is follow the link below to access your new account."
This is the only e-mail I've received since deactivating my account, compared to WWE Network who regularly try to get customers back. The old NWA streaming site also featured a huge security flaw allowing users to download the videos, which I'm guessing the new site will have fixed.
Billy's hard at work!

Billy, why don't you just invest in Progress or something? Are you saying Billy should have invested in a growing brand in a growing market instead of a logo, one tape library and a title belt? Don't be ridiculous! (And honestly, I'd like to have him invest in a Rev Pro, mostly because they probably need more money to improve the website which never gets updated much a all)

Billy, why don't you just invest in Progress or something? Because WWE already beat him in that.

Is the music industry really any different from wrestling? Both have carnies, workers, marks and can be extremely skeevy. Music just makes more money.

So why didn't Vince eventually buy the nwa? Couldn't be that expensive. Might as well finish off his job of owning wrestling history. (Even if it's a tiny bit)

So why didn't Vince eventually buy the nwa? Couldn't be that expensive. Might as well finish off his job of owning wrestling history. (Even if it's a tiny bit) Seems to me it's somewhat all about pride. Bruce Tharpe seems like a guy who wants to have something mostly his to have it and Vince isn't exactly going to let him have a position in the NWA if the NWA title just becomes a hanging prop for HHH's office wall. And, probably in his mind, he sees it as a minor victory that he (now Corgan) has something Vince can't have or even barely need...well, until this whole thing backfires and Corgan hands the whole thing to Vince for a sweet quick buck.
