Pretty sure this is the way the higher-ups at SE got to Nomura and told him "either you get off your high horse and start actually making games on schedule, or you can go to form an indy studio that will never have the money you want to put pouches and belts on everything".

Dear god, they have to release it two parts? Is that what I'm getting from this? Oh, the weapons will be dlc! Pre-order bonus will be Yuffie and Zomble Aerith/Aeris!
I quit.

What the hell, they still haven't got this done? I've never worked on a game but I think I can get more done in 3 months than they could in 3 years.
And screw releasing it in episodes or parts, how about they release the whole game on separate discs like they did when it first came out instead of trying to con and tick off your fanbase like capcom.

This isn't one bit surprising to be honest. I remember when the first trailer was released, it said directed by Tetsuya Nomura and apparently Nomura had no idea the remake was even happening.

in this day and age splitting a game like FF7 into three installments when you can get a game as massive as The Witcher 3 onto one disc is just a cynical cash grab and I'll have no part in it.

Three parts? That's asinine. I can't see buying a game and enjoying that game when I can't sit down and beat it. Especially an RPG.
I have an interest but I'd probably be more apt to wait for the "ultimate" edition.
Maybe I'm old and out if it but what's the point (other than money) of releasing an unfinished game ?

Maybe they want to simulate the fact that there were 3 CDs for the original game and separate the game in as many parts? And it being SE they'll expect 100000000000000000000000 copies sold of each to turn profit?

I figure they need to put so much time and so many resources into this remake, the file size is gonna be huge. Almost like they're up against a wall saying they can either release it in three parts and call it "episodic." Or wait a few more years, release it all in one shot and have the game cost %180, alienating a huge amount of the fanbase that is looking forward to this.

The only way I'd buy it in parts is of each cost 30 or less. No way I'm spending 60 plus each for them and have to pay over 200 in the end after sales tax

I'd rather wait 5 years for a complete game than wait for parts to be released each year. Either way KH3 needs to get out first before this

That's a major red flag for me. Starting to really get concerned here.

Is every game Tetsuya Nomura a director on fated to become vaporware or end up needing a new director? After the FF Versus XIII debacle and Kingdom Hearts 3 still existing somewhere out in the aether, you'd think Square Enix would know better than to have him headline any remotely ambitious project.

It took 10 years for versus/ff13. How long has KH3 been in development for?

Sane Trilogy, is selling at $40, which is awfully generous coming from Activision Blizzard. Somebody needs to tell him that games should not take forever just to set up prose. There's delaying just to ensure it's the best it can be, & procrastinating.

It didn't actually start development until 2012, but before that the constant answer was, "We'll get to it, we'll get to it." Though really the only way Dream Drop Distance isn't 3 is that they don't call it 3.
