Okay, regarding the topic that came up the last few days, I will only say one more thing before leaving you all alone with it. These are the main reasons why I personally would not mind if the show went in a direction of Fluttershy and Discord becoming an official pair. -As mentioned previously, it was good that the show during its first seasons avoided the cliché of having all the mane cast members be boy-crazy (well, except Rarity) and longing for romance or stuff like this. But after seven seasons, I think its reasonable that at least one mane cast member gets to have a relationship moving beyond just friendship. And Fluttershy and Discord would be the pair closest to that because none of the other mane cast members have such a developed relationship with a male character. If, say, a new male character got introduced and hook up with one of the other mane cast members or if they resurrect Pony Flash Sentry from his post-Season 4 purgatory, it would feel like a cop-out and would probably fall into the old "Love at first sight" trope. At least, with Fluttercord, you'd have a relationship that has a lot of history to it and did not deal with romance at all until now. -This could also help to show the main audience for the series that love can bloom even if the characters are the complete opposites as long as they make sense to each other. On one hand you have the chaotic ex-villain who is happy wreaking chaos wherever he goes, on the other you have this timid, innocent pegasus who one would usually suspects enjoys quiet tea parties and the like and nothing extraordinary. At this point, they would even have enough scenes with each other to make a sweet little montage ("The Return Of Harmony Part 1" "Keep Calm And Flutter On" "Princess Twilight Sparkle Part 1 & 2" "Twilight's Kingdom" "Make New Friends But Keep Discord" etc.pp.)and who knows what else might be in store for them. -Regarding the age thing, if they can go this long with Princess Celestia being 1000s of years old and not being a depressive wreck over all the ponies and friendships she has seen come and go, then age difference for a wedding should not be that big a deal. The bigger deal regarding this could be made about Discord's betrayal of her in the S4 finale being a hurdle to him asking her to be his special somepony and I would love if that would be the case. In closing though, it will be all up to the MLP staff who, as Big Jim reiterated during Galacon, make a show that they would enjoy watching and not what the bronies enjoy watching. If they decide one day that they would have fun seeing Fluttercord become a reality, then so be it. If not, then so be it as well. But I would definitely be happy if it became a reality. |

"The Perfect Pear"...gets a 10/10 from me.
Pros:
-My first praise goes towards the story structure. I really love how instead of the boring old "sit down and let me tell you a story for the whole episode", they managed to liven it up by visiting several ponies who each could contribute a story from a different part of their parents' budding romance. This is really a great stylistic choice they went for here and it definitely makes this episode a lot more engaging.
-Bright Mac and Pear Butter are a wonderful couple and their interactions just make one smile with joy. Nice touch that each of the apple siblings inherited some trait from their parents (Applejack her father's honesty, Big Mac his father's tendency to not do anything too fancy romance-wise and Apple Bloom her mother's keen eye on how to help others see their true potential), showing that those two really were something else. Felicia Day's song was just the icing on the cake.
-All the other supporting characters were also great in this one like William Shatner as Grand Pear giving a strong performance. Also a sweet touch to have Mrs. Cake and Mayor Mare (with pink hair!) play such a vital role in the Apple Parents's life. And Burnt Oak is a nice addition to the townspeople of Ponyville as well.
-That final picture of the episode (the entertwining pear and apple trees) makes me tear up even now at work thinking about it. That was such a beautiful image it deserves its separate mention.
Cons:
-Besides one-two nicks, there is really nothing I can say to detract from this awesome MLP entry.
And so, "The Perfect Pear" gets a deserved 10/10.
