In a podcast interview a few years back, Rob van dam said that he was in negotiations at one point to come in to WCW as Glacier, but he stayed with ECW.
On Madusa's podcast, Tommy Dreamer said that he turned down WCW's offer 3 times,and that the first time he was slated to be Marcus bagwell's partner in the American Males.
Are there any other known or confirmed instances when someone was originally slated for a gimmick, but it went to someone else before it debuted?

Giant Gonzalez was slated to be the Yeti in WCW, and *might* have been in the costume for the original shot of him encased in ice (I've heard differing accounts on it). But they realized in working with him for one day that he was not in good enough health to pull it off and replaced him with Ron Reis instead. (It also totally explains why he was a "yeti" - he was originally meant to wear a costume similar to his WWF suit)

Moondog Rex in Demolition before Smash. Doesn't count - he actually debuted as Smash and was in the role for weeks before being replaced. OP is asking for ones intended for a gimmick but didn't get it before the actual debut (so this disqualifies Konan as Max Moon as well) |

I suppose Chris Hero allegedly being meant to be in the Shield counts, though I don't know if that's quite the same thing.

I remember Honky Tonk Man saying that his idea for Rockabilly was Savio Vega, not Billy Gunn.
Of course, that may have never been on the office's radar, and may have just been HTM running off at the mouth.
I share it simply because the idea of Vega as Rockabilly is... certainly something.

If you misunderstand his words, Terry Taylor could have been Mr.Perfect. Yep, so glad that old myth is finally starting to fade away. Taylor never meant he was tagged to be Perfect or Hennig be the Rooster; he was just implying that the two very similar guys coming in at the same time could have ended up in each others' roles, not that it was ever even a notion that was considered. People forget that Taylor wasn't immediately the Rooster when he came in, though; he was given that gimmick later because of his attitude in the lockerroom, acting like a big shot. |

Another rumor-buster - Jimmy Garvin was never considered for the Doink role. Jimmy's gone on record that he did have talks about coming in, and that McMahon wanted to give him a new name, but he's adamant that it had nothing to do with Doink.

Umaga signed with WWE in December 2005 and would've reformed Three Minute Warning had Rosey not been released not long after, resulting in the creation of the Umaga gimmick. Joe had been signed to TNA for six months before that, and Vince had been dead set against bringing Joe in despite the best efforts of Heyman and Prichard to convince him to - Vince saw him as just a generic fat Samoan, who didn't even have the benefit of any Anoa'i family connection. |

It's always interesting when they come up with the gimmick and then slot a guy into it rather than coke up with the gimmick based specifically on the wrestler

New Japan Pro Wrestling originally wanted to give the Big Van Vader gimmick to the Dingo Warrior. He ended up going to the WWF instead and got the Ultimate Warrior gimmick.
