Lanny Poffo was originally going to be the new Gorgeous George in WCW but they ended up giving it to Randy's girlfriend (if you believe Lanny, Randy actually bought the gimmick for his brother). There were rumors that Chris Benoit was the original choice for The Ringmaster instead of Steve Austin I think that's because apparently WWE had "Ringmaster" trademarked and on the books for a while, and when Benoit popped up doing tryouts with Dibiase as his manager, then a few months later, out comes Austin, with Dibiase, calling himself "The Ringmaster". It's a pretty easy leap to make. Adam Bomb has also said that the Ringmaster was one of the gimmick names they had for him but he went with Bomb as he was green as heck so wasn't exactly a ring master at the time.

I remember hearing that Lex Luger was supposed to be the third man at Bash at the Beach 1996 and I totally believed it when he had that goofy/phony injury early on in the match.

Another rumor-buster - Jimmy Garvin was never considered for the Doink role. Jimmy's gone on record that he did have talks about coming in, and that McMahon wanted to give him a new name, but he's adamant that it had nothing to do with Doink. Doink was created specifically for Matt Borne. Road Warrior Hawk saw Borne in the bar and said that he looked like Krusty The Clown, a short time later Pat Patterson created the Doink gimmick. Christopher Daniels was supposed to be the higher power character but McMahon vetoed because Daniels was too small in his opinion.

It's possible they had that as a backup plan, if only because I know Hogan supposedly hemmed and hawed about turning, having cold feet about it. Given the kind of pull he had, they couldn't make him do it if he didn't want to, so they'd have probably gone with Luger or something. That, and they probably didn't want to make Nash and Hall look sympathetic, which it would have been if they were outnumbered for the match. Luger could have returned to "help" his team and switch sides right there, if they had to do it. Wouldn't have had anywhere near the impact, but as far as backup plans go if Hogan couldn't be made to see reason, they could have done worse.

I've also heard that Curt Hennig was supposed to be the guy that was under the "masked man" gimmick that kept attacking Hogan during his first few months in WCW, which was eventually revealed to be Brutus Beefcake.

I remember Honky Tonk Man saying that his idea for Rockabilly was Savio Vega, not Billy Gunn. Of course, that may have never been on the office's radar, and may have just been HTM running off at the mouth. I share it simply because the idea of Vega as Rockabilly is... certainly something. They also wanted Disco Inferno for the role but he re-signed with WCW. There aren't many people I'd rather see less than Billy Gunn, but Disco would be one of them.

The Black Scorpion was originally supposed to be someone who was known as the Dark Angel who actually had a history with Sting in the California territory, but he was considered too obscure for the reveal.

Did Brian Adams ever debut as the KISS demon? Technically yes, during the KISS concert. He ditched the gimmick without ever wrestling as it.

I thought he was brought in and refused to job? Angel of Death, not Dark Angel, but no, it had nothing to do with him being unwilling to job. Dave Sheldon was already on the roster and was jobbing on a regular basis. He would not have said no to a main event run with PPV money. To my knowledge, he was never considered for the role beyond filling in as one of the fake Scorpions that kept attacking Sting; the fact the two trained together was pure coincidence to things.

Yeah this sounds like something that well, nerds would think of, not someone actually booking. If you're booking it, why would you suddenly have this jobber be Sting's rival? It makes him look like crap. You'd bring in someone no one knew that didn't have that loser stink on them, or a top star from elsewhere. It's more likely people who read too much into these things made the connection with their histories, and so it "must" have been the Angel. In 1990, who the f*** cares about some jobber Sting used to know?

Malia Hosaka was originally suppose to get the spot that Lita got as Essa Rios' valet and her name was to be Aphrodisia I can't get away from Hosaka's name without thinking of "The Asian's name was Malia Hosaka, she's wrestled in many independents." (You had to be in RSPW at the time, I guess...)

WWE apparently wanted Samoa Joe to be Umaga before he went to TNA. Instead they had Umaga be the "Samoan Crushing Machine" for a few weeks and made sure his undefeated streak ended a month or two after Joe's did, because WWE.

Not "Gimmick" exactly but the only reason Matt Hardy was revealed as the person who'd been ruining Jeff's life for months was because everyone and their grandma figured out it was Christian.

Maybe that's why I have a hard time imagining it, was this confirmed by anyone? As far as I know just Triple H. people have been claiming this for years with zero source.
