Okay James.....just because you get off on mostly naked cat/human CGI porno doesn't mean you have to ruin it for the rest of us.

So why were the Avatar aliens sexy blue cat people? Was he objectifying them too?
I think James Cameron's drunk. Can someone take him home?

The guy who made a screensaver version of Dances with Wolves doesn't really get to talk about stories to me.

Well, he did create Sarah Conner. Credit where it's due.

Wonder Woman never objectified its protagonist, at least not from what I remembered. I think James Cameron is looking for something just to make an argument and pat himself on the back. Also it's pretty damn sexist to say that badass women and good-looking women are mutually exclusive.

I cheered like a madman when Avatar and Cameron choked at the Oscars a few years ago. That gives you an idea of how much I value his opinion.

Sarah Conner in the original Terminator film was the damsel in distress stereotype. Sarah Conner in T2 is a psychotic sociopath. Neither are anything to emulate. While I will give points to Sarah Conner killing The Terminator in the first film, I must also deduct points for Sarah's overall purpose in the franchise is to be the vessel in which the real hero of the human resistance, John Conner comes into being.

James Cameron is an absolute tool. Never have liked him personally and his comments here are ridiculous.

If James Cameron saying stupid shit keeps him from working on more horrible Avatar movies, let him speak.

I already found him to be a hack, but this is another level of idiocy.
Wonder Woman as a film united male and female audience members of varying ages in ways rarely seen. I took my daughter to see it with me, and I've never seen her more excited watching a superhero movie. And afterwards in the lobby, seeing an absolute mob of little girls buzzing and jumping with excitement over what they'd just seen was so cool. "Step backward" my ass.

just the same "real girls don't wear dresses" nonsense as always. if he had a point to make he didn't do a very good job of it and just came off as a bloviating old man who doesn't know what he's talking about. whatever, Jim, go back to working on those Avatar sequels nobody wants and you're never actually going to make.

James Cameron's obviously a bigger fan of William Dozier's interpretation.

Agreed with most of you: it's like any time people try to talk about what "real women" do or don't do, when the right answer is that a "real woman" can be anything she damn well pleases to be, just as guys have a right to yet have historically been given more freedom to be.
Sarah Connor was pretty, but Cameron's right that she wasn't presented as a "runway model" or overly idealized woman, given some overt flaws but some real toughness...and that's great!
Wonder Woman was pretty, and was presented as a paragon whose beauty and ability are notable to just about everyone around her...and that's great!
There's arguments to be made about all the pressures women and young girls get concerning body image, demeanor, and other things stemming from Hollywood depictions of women, and as others have said there may be a grain of truth in what Cameron is saying concerning male executives' getting their two cents in on how to present a female lead character, but there's a difference between using an attractive actor/actress for titillation and casting one to allow for an audience power fantasy. The former is something far too many attractive female actors have been pigeonholed into, while the latter has almost universally been the domain of male protagonists; Wonder Woman was a chance for women to get in on that act, which doesn't have to be a bad thing at all, and in fact must've felt like a huge breath of fresh air to many in the moviegoing public.

Reading what he said in The Guardian, the point Cameron seems to be trying to make...isn't....altogether...ridiculous.... Because it almost sounds like a point I've heard a lot of times before. A woman, no matter what she does or how she does it, has to be aesthetically pleasing to men at a very narrow and generic level or else shits will not be given, money will not be spent, advertising will not be had, etc. Wonder Woman falls squarely into what's considered attractive, when it comes to how she's dressed and even how... I guess considering what she does, it seems like she's not there to inspire the same level of power or...wonder...? As someone like Batman or Superman. Part of Wonder Woman's look always has to be whittled down so as to put the male gaze at ease. Like, for ages I always thought Wonder Woman probably should look more like this: ...but at least give her some straps because the lack of them is very distracting... At the very least that puts her a bit more in line with how Batman and Superman look. But good gracious, dude. I kinda feel like we need to just push Cameron into the penalty box until he can make a point that isn't so....ugh. ...and Jenkins makes sense that a woman really should be free to be as multidimensional as anybody else and girls can pick their own icons. ...out of a growing selection of samey-looking brown-haired white women. So...I guess...? Whatev, it was an easy lay-up because Cameron sucked and she took it. Wonder Woman was fine, just not nearly as progressive as a lot of people say it is. Kind of like Frozen. ...or Fury Road. ...or Peggy Carter....or Black Widow especially in AoU. ...or practically any woman Joss Whedon ever wrote post- Buffy.
...Lemme stop. That's not fair. Joss Whedon writing women is ****ing clown shoes and I really shouldn't be comparing it to something like Fury Road.

"As a Feminist, I cannot respect a female character that doesn't meet my physical standards, and I believe that women looking a certain way nullifies their personality and achievements."
I can't believe the amount of people who cannot see the hypocrisy in this anti-logic.

I think all of the characters you mentioned, in one way or another, broke through a boundary. They don't need to be perfect to have a positive impact. And there's nothing wrong with "furry aliens". Avatar was kinda meh, but it wasn't the garbage fire people make it out to be. I'm not even that big a fan of the movie, but I'm so tired of those jokes.
